“Puchiye Sunny Leone…”: Kangana Ranaut Justifies Calling Urmila Matondkar “Soft Porn” Actor
Kangana Ranaut has defended her remarks about Urmila Matondkar, where she had referred to the latter as a “soft porn” actor.
Kangana Ranaut is one of the most polarising figures in all of Bollywood. There are some who absolutely adore her no-filter attitude while others are not so much in agreement with her outspoken views, especially on politics. Kangana Ranaut is not one to mince her words, and she has on numerous times trained her guns on her peers in the Hindi film industry. The actress had courted controversy in 2020 when she had referred to Urmila Matondkar as a “soft porn” actress in an interview with a media channel. Years later, Kangana Ranaut has now defended her comments saying “soft porn or porn star” is not an objectionable term.
“Is soft porn or porn star an objectionable term? No. It is not an objectionable term. It is a word that is not socially acceptable. Humare desh mein jitna porn star ko respect milta hai, puchiye Sunny Leone se, utna respect poore world mein kisiko nahi mil sakta (No other country gives porn stars as much respect as we do, ask Sunny Leone),” she said at the Times Now Summit.
“I was asked to comment on Urmila ji asking on what basis was the BJP considering me for a foray into politics. That was her question. I believe there are different realms of art. Sensational art, the one we refer to as massy art, which only titillates or physically stimulates you, that is also an art form. However, that can never be superior to the art that is intellectually motivating, one which stimulates your mind. I personally believe that I belong to that balanced cinema artiste tribe. I have never done item numbers. So, all I said was that if she could join a party (Congress) with her kind of filmography, then I have a more ravishing body of work,” she added.
Kangana Ranaut then bizarrely said that if some actresses are fine with being called “tandoori murgi and Sheila ka jawani” then there is no shame in what she called Urmila.
“If they are happy calling themselves tandoori murgi, item girl, Sheila ki jawani, why is it seen something as violating? It is a matter of fact. If they are comfortable with that, why do you want to shame her about it? I personally do not think that I had the intention of shaming her (Urmila) because they are very comfortable in that role,” she said.
“All I tried to say is that I respect your art, and seduction is an art form. If I respect your art, why don’t you respect my art?”
Following a string of flops in Bollywood, Kangana Ranaut has now decided to join politics. The actress was given a BJP ticket and will be fighting the Lok Sabha elections from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi.
She will, though, continue to act in movies. In fact, her new Hindi movie ‘Emergency’, where she will be playing the role of former India PM, Indira Gandhi, is all set to hit the theatres on June 14.
After a long line of flops, Kangana Ranaut will be dearly hoping that her latest Hindi movie does wonders at the box office.
