Kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency' Gets U/A Certificate, No Release Date Finalised: Report
As per a report, Kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency' has been granted a U/A certificate by the Censor Board.
Kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency' was supposed to release in cinemas on September 6, 2024, however, the film faced criticism from various Sikh organisations, and this led to the new Hindi film not receiving a green signal from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Now, in the latest entertainment news, the film, directed by Kangana Ranaut, has now received U/A certificate from CBFC, with a few cuts, as per a report in India Today.
The report states that the makers have been told to edit some scenes, and also add disclaimers for a few sequences.
"CBFC has asked filmmakers to give disclaimers on historical events depicted in the film," India Today quoted a source as saying.
However, it is important to mention that the release date of the film has not been finalised yet.
For the unversed, a U/A certificate means that the film can be viewed by people from different age groups, but with parental guidance.
As per several reports, 'Emergency' was submitted for a review on July 8 to the Censor Board. The film was then postponed due to the delay in clearance.
Earlier this month, Kangana Ranaut had said that the makers are still waiting for the "certification from the censor board."
For the unversed, 'Emergency' delves into the life of former India Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who imposed a 21-month emergency period from 1975 to 1977.
'Emergency' also faced backlash from several Sikh groups for the portrayal of the Sikh community.
Certain Sikh organisations such as Akal Takht and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, then demanded that the film should be banned.
The outrage was caused after certain glimpses from the film showed Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale to be in cahoots with Indira Gandhi.
Apart from Kangana Ranaut, 'Emergency' also stars Anupam Kher, the late Satish Kaushik, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry and Milind Soman.
The movie has been directed and produced by Kangana Ranaut. It has been backed by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films.
Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut was last seen in ‘Tejas’. The film, which clashed with Vikrant Massey’s ‘12th Fail’ in October 2023, tanked miserably at the box office.
