Karan Johar Reveals Why He Didn’t Approach SRK For Cameo In ‘RRKPK’, Shares How He Was Still Part Of Movie
Karan Johar recently revealed why he didn’t approach Shah Rukh Khan for a cameo appearance in ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’.
Filmmaker-producer Karan Johar made a spectacular comeback to the silver screen with ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ after seven years. The new Hindi movie, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, received massive love from the audience and also entered the Rs 100 crore club at the domestic box office. With its performance at the box office, ‘RRKPK’ has become the sixth Bollywood film of the year to make Rs 100 crore. The film had many renowned actors alongside the lead actors and featured several interesting cameos.
The movie’s song ‘Heart Throb’, featuring Ranveer Singh, had cameo appearances by Janhvi Kapoor, Ananya Pandey, Sara Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan. However, fans were anticipating Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo in the new Hindi movie and were left disappointed after King Khan’s absence in ‘RRKPK’.
In a recent interview with Sucharita Tyagi, Karan Johar was questioned about whether he approached SRK for a cameo role in ‘RRKPK’.
The filmmaker told Sucharita Tyagi, “No, not at all. Shah Rukh did the most defining scene for me in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and for that I will always be very grateful to him. I can’t keep using my privilege with Shah Rukh. I can’t push it.”
He added, “Do you remember he shot with us for 18 days for Brahmastra with no monetary exchange. He just gave his heart, time, body everything for that sequence. It was a large sequence. If I go again to him, it will be too much.”
Karan Johar further said, “Shah Rukh never says no to me. But I can’t keep going to him. I think you need to keep that card very close. I will use it because I have that kind of access to Mr Khan but I don’t want to keep using it for no reason.”
KJo also revealed that while the superstar was not in the film, he was still very much involved with it. Karan Johar shared that SRK actually went out of his way and spent six hours with Alia Bhatt to make sure she was trained properly before she shot the romantic number ‘Tum Kya Mile’.
He said, “When you do a slow-motion song or a high-speed song at the music, it’s doubled. To catch the lip sync, you really have to, like there’s a technique to it. And of course, Shah Rukh being the most intelligent man I know, mastered the technique a while ago. So when Alia was grappling with that high speed, you know it’s like hearing a voice note in 2X speed. That’s how that song is.”
Karan Johar added, “So I said, just go to Shah Rukh, he is a master. And she went and not only did he teach, she took some advice on the phone, but he was there for six hours with her and Suhana, because he’s like while I am coaching you, let me also coach Suhana. So both the students sat and ‘Professor Khan’ conducted the lip sync in high-speed Opera and both were like, wow, this is gold, getting this from Shah Rukh himself. So yes, like vicariously Shah Rukh is in the film.”
Karan Johar’s new directorial ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ also stars Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, Churni Ganguly, Aamir Bashir, Kshitee Jog and Anjali Anand. The new Hindi movie has been performing well at the box office and has so far collected Rs 113.68 crore in India.
