There is no one like Karan Johar. There are very few people who can do self-aware comedy better than the 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' filmmaker. In the latest Bollywood celebrity news, Karan Johar posted a hilarious video, taking his public perception of "nepotism king" and turning it into a funny dig to promote his upcoming web series 'Showtime', starring Emraan Hashmi, Mouni Roy, Shriya Saran, Rajeev Khandelwal and Naseeruddin Shah. The video begins with Karan Johar reading and rejecting script ideas. We can see how the director is frustrated with "bloody naach-gaana, fancy sarees, mushy prem kahaani, item songs, what jhumka."

Karan Johar, who is fondly referred as KJo, then announced that he is "done with it", saying he wants to do something that makes audience feel that they will be getting something new.

It is then that he is pitched a "realistic" story. The project synopsis is, "A big shot producer, who is known for launching starkids one after another, clashes with an outsider."

"He himself is the son of a legendary producer-director, making films under their banner. And one after the other, goes on and on launching star kids,” the writer, played by actor Vijay Maurya, says.

Karan Johar then nods in agreement, saying, "A lot of people do that, I’ve heard, it happens.”

In the video, Karan Johar is not able to make out that the writer is talking about him. "I feel bad for people who go through this, I really do," Karan Johar said.

“People call him shrewd, cunning, arrogant, over smart and even Nepo-king. And one fine day, ek outsider aati hai and they collide,” says the character of the writer, drawing parallels between his infamous Koffee with Karan episode, where Kangana called KJo "flag-bearer of nepotism" and "movie mafia."

Karan Johar then gets emotional, and he hugs Vijay Maurya, saying, "It is amazing, this is what I call fresh. A big-time producer vs small time outsider.  Dark side of Bollywood, star tantrums, pretend friends, insecurities, publicity stunts… wow. This truly feels like it has no connection whatsoever with Karan Johar. I love it, I am green lighting it. It is Showtime.”

The director is then shown talking to his mother on phone, and it is then that he realises the kind of project he has greenlit.

"No no, it is not based on me. Don’t be silly, not at all. Not me," said Karan Johar.

“How can it be me?” Karan Johar wonders, before breaking the fourth wall to look directly at the viewer.

For the unversed, in web series 'Showtime', Emraan Hashmi will be seen playing the role of a producer while actress Mahima Makwana will be playing the rebel outsider.

The show has been created and written by Sumit Roy with Mihir Desai attached as a showrunner. The series will be releasing on Disney+ Hotstar on March 8.
