"Just Unacceptable": 'Kedarnath' Director Abhishek Kapoor On Legal Tussle With Sara Ali Khan
Filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor has finally opened up about his legal tussle with actress Sara Ali Khan, who made her debut with his film 'Kedarnath' in 2018.
Filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor has finally opened up about his legal tussle with actress Sara Ali Khan, who made her debut with his film 'Kedarnath' in 2018. For the unversed, 'Kedarnath' featured Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput in lead roles. In the latest entertainment news, Abhishek Kapoor has said that it was ironic how he and Sara would be fighting in court and filming simultaneously. For the uninitiated, the legal battle started between Abhishek Kapoor and KriArj Entertainment, which dropped out of the project at the last minute. The tussle then resulted in the shooting schedule of Sara Ali Khan going for a toss, as she had reportedly allotted her free dates to Karan Johar-backed 'Simmba'.
'Simmba' was directed by Rohit Shetty, and it featured Sara along with Ranveer Singh.
“Movie making is not easy. You have to take care of your film, protect it in such a way that you have to protect it even from key people who are supposed to support your film and from scenarios that can be created, unfortunately. Those days, my dates (from her) were given to somebody else by some overenthusiastic management that was running her. It was just unacceptable to us. I had to finish my film, I could not afford to let go of the dates because I had a big set standing," Abhishek Kapoor told Siddharth Kannan, as per Indian Express.
“Simultaneously, there were some financial issues with some fraudulent people we got untangled with, unfortunately. But the film could not be jeopardised. I had to fight her, but at the same time on the same days we were shooting together also. To get my dates back, we had to go to court. While we are fighting in court during the day, Sara and I are shooting important scenes the same evening in a temple," he added.
Abhishek Kapoor also said that the entire sequence taught him and Sara about how to isolate and compartmentalise things.
“We are in a situation, but this movie is as much yours as it is mine, so we can’t jeopradise it. We may be stuck in a s**t of a situation, but let’s be like actor and director while making the film. These are the scenarios that help you grow as an individual. Even out of that, both of us have taken something home,” he said.
For the unversed, 'Kedarnath' released in cinemas, just days before 'Simmba' hit the screens. At that time, reports stated that Sara's mother Amrita Singh wanted 'Simmba' to be her first film rather than 'Kedarnath'.
When asked about this, Abhishek said, “Pata nahi, meri zyada interaction unki mata ji se hui nahi."
Lastly, speaking of Sara Ali Khan as an actress, Abhishek said, "Sometimes, other factors also dictate casting, like when you see someone’s personality matching with the character you have written. As you go along your second, third or fourth films, you will show your versatility as an actor."
"In the first film, I will have to handle you to deliver my character, not there to show one off how great an actor that person is. Sara could fit the character and had the drive. She was hard working, wanted to do whatever needs to be done. I have to give her credit, she was very hungry," he added.
