Makers Of 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' Wrongly Claim Being India's "Official" Entry For Oscars 2025
Makers of Randeep Hooda's 'Veer Savarkar' have wrongly claimed that the film has been "officially submitted" for the Oscars.
Days after the Film Federation of India (FFI) announced Kiran Rao's 'Laapataa Ladies' as India's official entry for Oscars 2025 in the Best International Feature Film category, there has been a massive development, which is causing confusion all around. In the latest entertainment news, the makers of Randeep Hooda's 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' have dropped a poster on Instagram, claiming that the film on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar has been "officially submitted" for the Oscars. The post also goes on to thank the FFI for the "remarkable appreciation". The truly misleading post has now led to many wondering the status of 'Laapataa Ladies'.
“Honored and humbled! Our film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar has officially been submitted for the Oscars. Thank You FILM FEDERATION OF INDIA for this remarkable appreciation. This journey has been incredible, and we are immensely grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way,” the caption read.

But is there any truth to the claim? We would like to confirm that no, the claim is totally false. FFI President Ravi Kottakara has now clarified the same while talking to Hindustan Times.
He stated that the makers have let out “wrong communication.” He added, “only Laapataa Ladies has been sent for Oscars from India officially.”
It is important to mention that 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' was among the 29 films that was submitted to be considered for the Oscars. However, the FFI chose just 'Laapataa Ladies' to be India's official entry for the Oscars 2025.
The other films that were considered by FFI were 'Animal', 'All We Imagine As Light', and 'Aattam'.
For the unversed, any film which fits the criteria rolled oyt by FFI, can be submitted as India's potential official selection. But if you need to be considered, the makers need to submit a fee of Rs 1,25,000.
The jury then watches the submitted films to chooses one to represent the country.
'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' has not been named as India's official entry but the makers can send their film independently.
A country can only send one film as the "official" entry, filmmakers can independently submit their films to be considered at the Academy Awards.
For example, the official entry of India in 2022 was the Gujarat film 'Last Film Show', but SS Rajamouli's 'RRR' applied for the Oscars independently.
Similarly, in the same year, Sanjay Leela Bhansali submitted 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' independently for the 95th Academy Awards.
