“Do Basic Research”: Fans Tear Into Foreign Media For Sidelining Shah Rukh Khan At Met Gala 2025
Shah Rukh Khan made his much-awaited Met Gala debut on Tuesday as he impressed everyone in an all-black Sabyasachi outfit.
Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan made his much-awaited Met Gala debut on Tuesday as he stunned one and all in an all-black Sabyasachi outfit. King Khan looked dapper in a custom black floor length elongated coat in Tasmanian superfine wool with monogrammed, Japanese horn buttons. The coat came hand canvassed, single breasted with a peak collar and wide lapels. Paired with a crepe de chine silk shirt and tailored superfine wool trousers. A pleated satin kamarbandh rounded off his look.
He also wore a custom stack and The Bengal Tiger Head Cane crafted in 18k gold with tourmalines, sapphires, old mine cut and cut diamonds. However, a video is now going viral on social media, in which the ‘Badshah of Bollywood’ can be seen introducing himself to the foreign press.
A viral clip from Vogue's red carpet coverage highlighted how two interviewers struggled to hold a conversation with Shah Rukh Khan, who is inarguably one of the biggest Indian global superstars. The exchange between SRK and the two interviewers turned awkward when they failed to identify designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s name correctly.
“And this is the designer tonight?” one interviewer asked, looking at SRK and Sabyasachi, seemingly unaware of either man’s global fame.
Sabyasachi took over the mic after a few minutes, as he said, “Just to give you a little bit of context, Shah Rukh Khan is probably one of the most famous men in the world, and his fan following is legendary. We nearly had a stampede outside the hotel when he came out.”

Several fans are now outraging over this viral clip which has made its way to Reddit, talking about how the foreign press never does their homework and how they have a habit of sidelining Indian stars.
Hope SRK and other stars don’t go these international events. It’s quite embarrassing to see them in such vulnerable state. Apna filmfare hi sahi hai.

Another user commented, “As a fan, I don't mind that random Americans don’t know SRK, but people working at these events should do basic research.”
A third one added, “He had to literally say, ‘SRK is one of the most famous people in the world.’ Uhhhh.”
“The world does not revolve around Americans and how well they know everyone. People should stop giving them so much attention and feeling embarrassed to see Indians at international events,” commented one user.
“But the ground reality is also that a lot of Indians don't know many hollywood stars....but when u invite someone atleast be prepared,” another comment read.
For the unversed, the theme of Met Gala 2025 is ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’, and it delves into the evolution of Black fashion and its cultural impact.
Speaking about SRK’s work front, he recently lent his voice to the Hindi version of Disney's 'Mufasa: The Lion King'. It released in Indian theatres on December 20, 2024.
SRK will next be seen in Siddharth Anand’s 'King', alongside Suhana Khan. The film will also star Abhishek Bachchan and Abhay Verma. The movie is being jointly bankrolled by SRK's Red Chillies Entertainment and Siddharth Anand's Marflix Pictures.
