“Out-Of-Body Experience”: Mouni Roy Recalls Fumbling While Rehearsing For First Time With SRK On ‘Brahmastra’ Sets
Mouni Roy played the antagonist in Ayan Mukerji's ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’, which featured a cameo by megastar Shah Rukh Khan.
Believe it or not, even celebrities get star-struck when they see senior actors. Something similar happened with Mouni Roy, who worked with Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Brahmastra’. Mouni Roy, who received immense praise for her negative role in Ayan Mukerji’s ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’, recently revealed that working with someone as senior and prolific as Shah Rukh Khan for the first time was an “out-of-body” experience for her. For the unversed, SRK did an important cameo in ‘Brahmastra: Part One- Shiva’ and had to face the wrath of the villain Junoon, played by Mouni Roy.
Junoon (Mouni Roy) had to torture Mohan (Shah Rukh Khan) into getting an astra, which he possessed. In an interview with The Male Feminist, Mouni Roy shared her experience of meeting Shah Rukh Khan for the first time.
Mouni Roy said, “I have done television for nine years, I am very good with my lines and I memorise them quickly. I don’t think maine last time kab itna fumble kiya hoga. To mujhe kisi ne aake pucha ki aapki lines ready hai and maine bola ‘haan’. I have gone on sets, first rehearsal, it’s such an out-of-body experience when you are standing next to Shah Rukh sir.”
The actress also said that her character had to look very dominating and intimidating and she wasn’t supposed to look soft in front of Shah Rukh Khan’s character.
Mouni Roy further said, “I looked at him (Shah Rukh) and I just forgot what I had to say and it’s powerful. I can’t be a girl-next-door, stylised and all. You have to hold his gaze and go for it. So I was like ‘ok, I need to calm down’. So Ayaan came and said ‘calm down, don’t get nervous’. It takes that few an hour or two to get used to.”
The first film in Ayan Mukerji’s ‘Brahmastra’ trilogy starred Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor in the lead roles, along with Amitabh Bachchan in a pivotal role.
On being asked about the power dynamics with so many A-listers on the sets, Mouni Roy said, “I don’t think that there is a power dynamic on a set.”
Mouni Roy recently featured in the Hotstar series ‘Sultan Of Delhi’. In the series directed by Milan Luthria, she has a cabaret performance in a song.
Mouni Roy has been a part of several shows such as ‘Kasturi’, ‘Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev’ and ‘Naagin’. She has also participated in reality shows like ‘Nach Baliye 6’, ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7’ and ‘Zara Nachke Dikha’.
She will next be seen in the horror comedy ‘The Virgin Tree’, co-starring Sunny Singh and Palak Tiwari.
Mouni Roy will also star in Girish Dhamija’s new Bollywood movie ‘Penthouse’. It will also feature Tisca Chopra and Arjun Rampal in key roles.
