“Don’t Like Them”: Naseeruddin Shah Reveals He Has “Stopped” Watching Hindi Films
Naseeruddin Shah said that he has stopped watching Hindi movies, and he does not like the kind of films that are being made today.
Veteran star Naseeruddin Shah, known for his impeccable acting chops and unfiltered opinions, is gearing up for the release of his upcoming web series ‘Showtime’. In the upcoming series, he will be starring alongside Emraan Hashmi, Shriya Saran and Mouni Roy. Naseeruddin Shah, who never shies away from speaking his mind, recently expressed his disappointment with Hindi cinema. As reported by news agency PTI, Naseeruddin Shah said that Hindi cinema can only get better if filmmakers start making movies without the intention of minting money.
The senior actor also said that the filmmakers have been making the same kind of movies since the last century.
“There is hope for Hindi cinema only if we stop seeing them as a means to make money. But I feel it’s too late now. There is no solution anymore because the films that are being watched by thousands will keep being produced and people will keep watching them, God knows till when,” he said.
“So those who want to make serious films, it’s their responsibility to show today’s reality and in such a way that they don’t get a fatwa, or the ED doesn’t come knocking on their doors,” he added.
The ‘Wednesday’ actor also said that he has stopped watching movies, and he does not like the kind of films that are being made today.
“It really disappoints me that we take pride in saying Hindi cinema is 100 years old but we have been making the same films. I have stopped watching Hindi films, I don’t like them at all,” the actor said.
Naseeruddin Shah had a memorable 2023 as he delivered solid performances in projects like ‘Kuttey’, ‘Taj: Divided By Blood’, and ‘Saas, Bahu, Aur Flamingo’.
The actor's next project ‘Showtime’ will be releasing on Disney+ Hotstar on March 8, 2024.
