Veteran star Naseeruddin Shah, known for his impeccable acting chops and unfiltered opinions, recently made a shocking statement regarding popular South movies 'Pushpa: The Rise' and 'RRR'. Both these films gained massive fan following and were box office successes. SS Rajamouli’s 'RRR', starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles, became an instant hit overseas as well, and the movie's popular track 'Naatu Naatu' also brought home an Oscar. However, Naseeruddin Shah has said that he would never go to see films like 'Pushpa: The Rise', and 'RRR'.

During his interview with the YouTube channel We Are Yuvaa, Naseeruddin Shah was asked about people’s fascination with hyper masculinity in reference to films like ‘Kabir Singh’.

The senior actor said in an episode of ‘Be A Man Yaar’, “Mardo ki insecurity badh rahi hai isliye aur bhi zayda zor diya jaa raha hai hyper masculinity ko. America me toh Marvel ki duniya chal rahi hai, sab superhero hai. Yahan bhi ho raha hai lekin yahan pe saath saath Wednesday jaisi film bhi kamyaab hoti hain. Jime koi hyper masculinity nahi hai.”

“The acceptance of smaller films, those made by Anurag like Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi, Gulmohar will find its place. I'm pretty sure because I have great faith in the younger generation,” he added.

He also said that he wonders what people get from watching films which highlight hyper masculinity except for thrill.

“Maine RRRPushpa dekhne ki koshish ki, mujhse dekhi nahi gayi. Maine Mani Ratnam ki film puri dekhi kyuki woh kaabil filmmaker hai, unka koi agenda nahi hai. Main imagine nahi kar pata, ilawa thrill ke ya aapke dil ke andar ki jo jasbaat jo chupe huye hai, unko feed karke kahi ek khushi ka ehsaas hota hai dekhne ke baad jo aksar kayi din tak rehta hai. Main imagine nahi kar paata. Main aise filmein kabhi dekhne na jau,” he added.

In a different segment of the same interview, he also questioned women liking RRR and said, “I don't know how many women liked RRR.”

‘RRR’, ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ and ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ are among the most successful pan-India films released in the past few years.

Previously, in another interview, the actor had said that the popularity of jingoistic films like 'Gadar 2' and 'The Kashmir Files' is disturbing.

“In fact, films like Kerala Story and Gadar 2, I haven’t seen them but I know what they are about. It’s disturbing that films like Kashmir Files are so massively popular whereas movies made by Sudhir Mishra, Anubhav Sinha, and Hansal Mehta, who are trying to portray the truth of their times don’t get seen,” he had said.
