Neena Gupta Reveals She Rinsed Her Mouth With Dettol After Shooting First Kissing Scene On Indian TV
Neena Gupta recalled the experience of shooting her first-ever kissing scene on Indian television.
Neena Gupta, often hailed as unconventional for both her personal and professional choices, is one of the most versatile actresses in the entertainment industry. Over the years, she has appeared in films like ‘Badhaai Ho’, ‘Veere Di Wedding’, ‘Goodbye’, ‘Uunchai’, ‘Shiv Shastri Balboa’ and ‘Vadh’ among others. The veteran actress will next be seen in Netflix’s ‘Lust Stories 2’. Ahead of its release, Neena Gupta recalled the experience of shooting her first kissing scene on Indian TV.
In an interview with Inside Bollywood, Neena Gupta opened up about how tense she was before and after filming her first on-screen kiss. The veteran Indian actress revealed that she was so shaken after the experience that she rinsed her mouth with Dettol.
This happened when she was working on the show ‘Dillagi’ in the early 1990s. She also revealed that showing physical intimacy on screen was unheard of during those days.
She told Inside Bollywood, “As an actor you have to do all kinds of scenes, sometimes you have to step in mud, sometimes you have to stand in the sun for several hours.”
Recalling the on-screen kiss, she said, “Many years ago, I did a serial with Dilip Dhawan. It had the first-ever lip-to-lip kissing scene on Indian TV. I couldn’t sleep all night. It wasn’t like he was a friend, we were acquaintances. He was good-looking, but that doesn’t really matter in these situations, because physically and mentally, I wasn’t ready. I was so tense, but I convinced myself to go through with it.”
Neena Gupta added, “It’s like some people can’t do comedy, some people can’t cry on camera. I drilled it into my head, and I did it. As soon as it ended, I rinsed my mouth with Dettol. It was so difficult for me to kiss somebody who I don’t know.”
Neena Gupta further revealed that the channel used the clip to promote the episode but it backfired on them. Neena said, “They had to remove it.” She concluded, “I did a love scene in Utsav, it was very difficult.”
Coming back ‘Lust Stories 2’, it is the follow-up to Netflix’s 2018 anthology hit ‘Lust Stories’, but with a different filmmaking team behind it.
The four short films this time around were helmed by Sujoy Ghosh, Amit Ravindernath Sharma, R Balki and Konkona Sen Sharma. The second film will release on June 29.
