Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Animal', starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri, turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2023. Despite being bashed for its problematic portrayal of toxic masculinity, the new Hindi film managed to go past the Rs 500 crore mark in India. Amidst the box office success, the new Hindi movie still continues to be polarising, and the reactions keep on coming in.

In the latest entertainment news, 'Paatal Lok' and 'Kohrra' creator Sudip Sharma has admitted that he did not like 'Animal'.

“No, I didn’t like the film," Sudip Mishra said at the year-end roundtable organised by Cinema Express.

"It’s one of the biggest blockbusters ever of Hindi cinema, there’s no refuting that. So, great job. But I was expecting more from the film. There’s great craft on display, there are a lot of things that work for it. As a film on a whole it didn’t work for me. It made me feel things that the film did not intend to, and it could not make me feel things which the film intended to," he added.

Speaking about 'Animal', the film had recently overtaken Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan' to become the second-biggest Hindi film of 2023 in India.

Globally, 'Animal' is on the verge of reaching the Rs 900 crore mark at the box office.

While ‘Animal’ has made big bucks at the box office, it has been bashed for glorifying toxic masculinity and misogyny.

Earlier, in an interview with Galatta Plus, Sandeep Reddy Vanga said that the criticism does not bother him.

“Misogyny is the disrespect of women, that’s the actual definition. So, no. Even Kabir Singh, even Animal, even me as a person… I always feel my production company’s name is Bhadrakali Productions, I don’t know why people feel I disrespect (women). Not people, just these 15-20 jokers. It’s the wrong word to use (to describe) Kabir Singh and Animal,” he said.

“This too much of analysing and scrutinising films started of late, right," he added.
