Back in January this year, a shocking knife attack at Saif Ali Khan’s Mumbai residence sent shockwaves across the country. After the attack, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan heightened their security and also asked the paparazzi not to click their sons – Taimur Ali Khan and Jeh Ali Khan. The Bollywood star, who suffered serious injuries and underwent emergency surgery, has now opened up about the traumatic experience and how it has changed the way he lives.

In a recent interview with ETimes, Saif Ali Khan shared how the incident has made him far more cautious, especially about securing his home. He revealed that the horrific incident taught him to be careful about locking doors and windows of his house.

Saif Ali Khan insisted that everyone should “smarten their security”. “We have a lot, and a lot do not. So while I am grateful, we, we must understand that and be careful,” he said.

While he has now been spotted with security personnel around him, Saif Ali Khan revealed that he never liked being surrounded by bodyguards. “I’ve never believed in security. I hate having people around me,” he confessed. But given what he’s been through, the actor acknowledged that it’s necessary – at least for now.

Saif also reflected on how lucky he feels to have survived the brutal attack. “Maybe it wasn’t my time to go. Maybe I’m meant to do a few more good films… have some more nice times with family and friends. Do some more charity,” he said.

The alleged attacker, Shariful Islam, was arrested soon after the horrific incident. Reports stated that a piece of the knife had to be extracted from Saif Ali Khan’s spine, and the actor sustained multiple injuries during the attempted robbery.

In an effort to create a safer, more peaceful space for himself, Saif Ali Khan recently purchased a holiday home in Doha, Qatar. Calling the new home “safe” and “secluded,” he said, “It’s not very far away and easily accessible. But most importantly, it’s very safe and feels very good to be there. It’s peaceful.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Saif Ali Khan is set to return to screens in ‘The Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins’, which will premiere on Netflix on April 25. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film will also star Jaideep Ahlawat and Nikita Dutta.
