Sandeep Reddy Vanga Dismisses Ram Gopal Varma's Theories About 'Animal' And 'Godfather'
Amidst the criticism, 'Satya' director Ram Gopal Varma continues to be a vocal supporter of 'Animal'.
'Animal', directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri, continues to be called out for glorifying toxic masculinity. Amidst the criticism, 'Satya' director Ram Gopal Varma continues to be a vocal supporter of the film, and he recently compared 'Animal' to Hollywood classic 'Godfather'. In an interview he also compared 'Animal' to films directed by Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese. Ram Gopal Varma also said that he spoke to Sandeep Reddy Vanga about the film, and the latter shut him down regarding a certain theory.
“The last film I saw where the director himself is not being judgemental about the character was Wolf of Wall Street. Leonardo DiCaprio’s character is immoral, he’s bad, and yet you’re fascinated to see him. I would like to think Animal is a mix of Scorsese and Tarantino," Ram Gopal Varma said in an interview with News9 Live.
“I remember a line from the book (Godfather), where Puzo describes Luca Brasi: ‘From 1935 to 1937, the name of Santino Corleone sent shockwaves through the underworld. Yet for sheer terror even he was eclipsed by the awesome man named Luca Brasi’. That kind of description was never there in Francis Ford Coppola’s film, but the Don was always scared of his son. And the way Sonny wants to kill all the five families when Don Corleone is attacked reminds me of Ranvijay in Animal," he added.
Ram Gopal Varma then said that he asked Sandeep Reddy Vanga about this particular theory.
"I asked Sandeep if he’s read the book Godfather, and he said, ‘I’ve never read a single book in my life'," said RGV.
Earlier, Ram Gopal Varma had called 'Animal' as the "most original" film in Indian cinema history and he also described Vanga as the "the highly commercial version of Anurag Kashyap".
Talking about 'Animal', the film has emerged as one of the biggest hits of 2023 with Rs 750 crore worldwide.
'Animal' continues to be talked about for its portrayal of women, and for seemingly glorifying toxic male behaviour.
Earlier, Bobby Deol had defended the film, saying it is actually creating awareness about the cruelty in the world.
