"All Time Favourite Director": Sandeep Reddy Responds To Ram Gopal Varma's Praise For 'Animal'
Sandeep Reddy Vanga called Ram Gopal Varma his "all-time favourite director".
'Animal', directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, starring Ranbir Kapoor in the leading role, is wreaking havoc at the box office, and the new Hindi movie is nearing the Rs 250 crore mark in India, and it looks likely that the film will be emerging as the biggest hit of Ranbir Kapoor's career. The new movie, however, is being criticised for its objectionable portrayal of toxix masculinity.
Amidst all the criticism, veteran director Ram Gopal Varma had praised Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Ranbir Kapoor, saying he wants to "lick" both their shoes after watching 'Animal'.
Responding to this praise, Sandeep Reddy Vanga on X (formerly Twitter) said, "I believe no other director had contibuted to Indian cinema more than Mr Ram Gopal Varma did.... Film Animal review from my all time favorite director. Excluding couple of things written in his own style really grateful for all the love."

Responding to Vanga's post, Ram Gopal Varma said, "Hey @imvangasandeep,In contradiction to my so called contribution to the system , I think you destroyed the existing system… I say this because I still followed a traditional and conventional template in my films even though they might have been shot realistically and differently ..But you just scooped up all the hitherto holy templates and threw them into the garbage bin. I always believed that the future of a truly original film maker is being an expressionist, Unlike how most film makers now became communicators because they are scared of being judged by the audience .. On the other hand you are neither judgemental towards the characters in your film nor towards the audience who are watching them in your film ..That’s the reason I genuinely feel that you are the first expressionist artiste that the Indian film industry ever produced ..A million salutes to you."

In one scene of 'Animal', Ranbir Kapoor was seen operating a custom-made weapon he got made to annihilate his enemy. Ram Gopal Varma had earlier termed this scene as a "cinematic gem."
"One of my favourite moments is when against everyone’s expectations, including me in the audience was that he will come back with a baseball bat or something, but when he comes back with a machine gun that almost made us all fall off our chairs and that moment is a pure cinematic gem," said RGV in his review.
For the unversed, in one scene in 'Animal', Ranbir Kapoor is fully naked, and talking about this, the director said, "More than him being physically naked in a particular scene, he was emotionally naked throughout the film in his performance which takes much more strength of mind than just being physically naked.”
The director said that he is more than happy to lick Sandeep and Ranbir's shoes to show his appreciation for the film.
"I didn’t like the shot of Ranbir asking the girl to lick his shoe but for just that one jump cut from Anil’s last dialogue to the end titles camera zooming out shot showing Ranbir crying like a baby in Shakti Kapoor’s lap, I want to lick both your shoes.”
Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, 'Animal' also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri.
