Shah Rukh Khan Calls ‘Dunki’ His “Best Film”, Pays Vicky Kaushal Ultimate Compliment
Shah Rukh Khan explained the meaning of his film ‘Dunki’ and the sentiment behind it. He also called ‘Dunki’ his “best film”.
Shah Rukh Khan, whose 2018 Bollywood movie ‘Zero’ bombed at the box office, made a comeback in 2023 with action-packed films ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’, showing off his massiest avatar ever. While we were thoroughly entertained by SRK’s massy avatar in these movies, his ‘King of Romance’ persona remains our favourite. We got a glimpse of it with the release of the ‘Dunki’ song ‘Lutt Putt Gaya’. ‘Dunki’ marks the maiden collaboration between SRK and Rajkumar Hirani. The upcoming Hindi movie also stars Vicky Kaushal, Taapsee Pannu, and Boman Irani, among others.
‘Dunki’ is slated to arrive in theatres on December 21. Ahead of the upcoming Hindi movie’s release, Shah Rukh Khan flew to Dubai to promote the Rajkumar Hirani directorial.
At the promotional event in Dubai, SRK explained the meaning of his film ‘Dunki’ and the sentiment behind it. He also called ‘Dunki’ his “best film”.
Speaking about his previous films, ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’, SRK said, “So when I made Jawan, I thought I made a film for boys and girls but I didn’t make anything for myself, then I made Dunki. So this is my film. This film is very close to my heart. When I was doing Pathaan, many people who write about films, those who apparently know about films more than the filmmakers, were saying what kind of roles I was doing, so I really felt that I should do films that come from my heart and this includes all the films that I did this year.”
He further said, “I started the year with Pathaan, which was always ladies first, and I want to end the year with a film for myself. So, please watch Dunki on December 21. Everyone will find something in the film that will touch their heart. The film will make you laugh also.”

King Khan also explained the meaning of ‘Dunki’ and said, “Dunki is an illegal trip lot of people take to get out of their country across borders all over the world. It is called the Donkey travels. So, the film is about going out and finding a future for yourself but loving your home the most. So it’s about homecoming. So, you can stay anywhere in the world but you can rest only on the soil of your nation. So, that’s what the film is about.”
He also said, “Dunki, is about all those people who have left their home because of work and made a home somewhere else, like you guys have made in Dubai. But there is always a feeling in our heart that our home is a very place to be in and this film celebrates that, that wherever we are, that becomes home.”

When Shah Rukh was asked to describe ‘Dunki’ in three words, the actor said, “Rajkumar Hirani, my best film and please watch on 21st December.”

Shah Rukh Khan also spoke about working with Vicky Kaushal and said, “Vicky is a great friend. I personally feel he is one of the finest actors I have worked with. When you watch him in Dunki, you will feel a lot of love for him. He has done really, really well and I got to learn from him actually.”

On Taapsee Pannu, Shah Rukh Khan said, “She is a wonderful actress, her name reminds me of Paneer, because of Pannu! She is a lovely actress and a wonderful person to work with.”
The advance bookings for ‘Dunki’ opened on December 16. The film will be clashing with Prabhas’ ‘Salaar’, which will release a day later on December 22.
