Shah Rukh Khan Leads Top 50 Asian Celebrities List; Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra Also Included
Shah Rukh Khan is at the top spot of Eastern Eye's Top 50 Asian Celebrities list.
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has had a memorable 2023 as his two releases 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan' wreaked havoc at the box office. Both the Hindi films managed to do a worldwide business of more than Rs 1,000 crore, and now the hopes are very high from SRK's upcoming release 'Dunki', directed by Rajkumar Hirani, which also stars Taapsee Pannu, Boman Irani and Vicky Kaushal.
Ahead of the 'Dunki' release, King Khan has topped a UK list of the top 50 Asian celebrities in the world.
“By the time 2023 ends, King Khan will become the first leading man from the modern era to have three huge Bollywood blockbuster hits in a calendar year,” said Eastern Eye’s Entertainment Editor Asjad Nazir, who compiled the list, as reported by news agency PTI.
“By drawing big audiences back into cinema halls with global juggernauts, the actor gave a movie industry in decline a much-needed boost and had a transformative effect. The history making superstar eclipsed everyone else with his brilliance and reminded global audiences what escapist Bollywood cinema is capable of,” he added.
For the unversed, this particular top 50 list is based on the impactful work, breaking boundaries and being generally inspiring over the course of the year.
Actress Alia Bhatt is at the second spot in the list for her impact in Bollywood and Hollywood, and also for being a strong role model for working mothers.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas is at the third spot and she has been recognised for her ground-breaking work on the international stage, including her Prime Video series 'Citadel' and Hollywood film 'Love Again'.
Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh is at the fourth spot in the list. Earlier this year, he had delivered a path-breaking performance at the prestigious Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.
Charli XCX from the UK is at the fifth spot in the list and he is followed by 'Animal' actor Ranbir Kapoor at the sixth position.
Singer Shreya Ghoshal comes in at number seven and she is followed by actor Vijay who was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj's 'Leo', which went on to do a business of more than Rs 500 crore worldwide.
The highest placed Pakistani on the list is actor Wahaj Ali. He occupies the ninth position in the list. Canadian actor Iman Vellani, who is known for her work in 'The Marvels', is at number 10.
The oldest star in the list is 81-year-old Amitabh Bachchan (35th) and the youngest is 'Bigg Boss 16' star Sumbul Touqeer (44th).
“Being included in the annual list with so many distinguished international names feels great. I am also proud to be the youngest in this list again and hope to inspire others starting out on their journey that anything is possible. I am grateful to be able to do what I love and so thankful for all the support," Indian Express quoted Sumbul Touqeer as saying.
