Numerous Bollywood celebrities woke up today and would have noticed the blue tick missing on Twitter.

Entertainment industry bigwigs like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor have all lost their blue ticks on micro-blogging site Twitter. It all has happened because Elon Musk's Twitter on Friday removed the legacy verified blue ticks from all accounts. Other Bollywood celebrities to lose their blue ticks are Ajay Devgn, Kajol, Akshay Kumar, Anushka Sharma and Anil Kapoor. Numerous other big names to lose their verified checkmark are Virat Kohli, Rahul Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Tom Cruise, Dwayne The Rock Johsnon and Rohit Sharma.

For the unversed, people who currently have blue ticks on Twitter, are the ones who are paying for Twitter Blue, which costs USD 8 per month through the web.

It costs USD 11 a month through an in-app payment on iOS and Android.

Earlier, former Daily Show host Jon Stewart had also reacted to losing his blue verified checkmark on Twitter.

"So sad, am I still me," Jon Stewart tweeted.

Earlier, it was announced that Twitter will be removing verified check-mark status of accounts that the platform had verified as notable before the Elon Musk takeover.

"On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue," the official handle of Twitter posted.

For the unversed, Twitter had introduced the blue tick system in 2009 to help users identify celebrities, politicians, companies and brands that were genuine.

The company previously did not charge for verification.
