Shekhar Kapur recently put rumours to rest as he confirmed working on a sequel to his iconic film ‘Masoom’.

There are some films that forever remain etched in our hearts. One such movie is the 1983 cult classic ‘Masoom’ starring Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi. The film, which was way ahead of its time, was directed by Shekhar Kapur. He is one of the most adept filmmakers from India and has delivered stellar work over the decades. Recently, several reports suggested that Shekhar Kapur is set to direct a sequel of his highly acclaimed film ‘Masoom’.

And now, Shekhar Kapur has put these rumours to rest by confirming that he is indeed working on a sequel to the film.

The sequel is titled ‘Masoom... The New Generation’. In an interview with ETimes, Shekhar Kapur has confirmed that he is directing a sequel to ‘Masoom’ but has kept all the other details under wraps.

When asked about the rumours of the ‘Masoom’ sequel being in the works, Shekhar Kapur said, “I am directing a sequel to Masoom. But the details later. Let’s chat about it later on.”

The 1983 Hindi movie, written by Gulzar, marked the directorial debut of Shekhar Kapur, who went on to helm films like ‘Mr India’ and ‘Bandit Queen’.

Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi’s ‘Masoom’ was an adaptation of the 1980 novel Man, ‘Woman and Child’ by Erich Segal.

The critically acclaimed film focussed on the story of a happily married couple, Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi, whose lives are altered after a boy, who is the son of the woman from his earlier affair, shows up.

‘Masoom’ also starred Jugal Hansaraj, Urmila Matondkar and Supriya Pathak. The film is remembered for its amazing performances, sensitive storytelling and RD Burman’s beautiful music, with songs like ‘Tujhse Naraz Nahin Zindagi’ and ‘Lakdi Ki Kaathi’.

Talking about Shekhar Kapur, he recently helmed the romantic comedy ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It?’ starring Lily James, Shazad Latif, Shabana Azmi and Emma Thompson among others.
