Shah Rukh Khan thanked Shashi Tharoor for his praise after the actor's National Award win.

After ruling hearts and box offices for over three decades, Shah Rukh Khan has finally added a long-overdue feather to his already glittering cap – a National Award. The superstar was honoured with the Best Actor title at the 71st National Film Awards for his commanding dual-role performance in Atlee’s 2023 blockbuster ‘Jawan’. The recognition, which marks his first National Award, is not just a personal triumph but a moment of celebration for fans who’ve stood by him through every cinematic era.

Soon after the winners list was announced last week, politician Shashi Tharoor took to social media to congratulate SRK, writing, “A National Treasure wins a National Award! Congratulations.”

Staying true to his signature humour, Shah Rukh Khan responded with a cheeky jab at Tharoor’s famously flamboyant vocabulary, “Thank u for the simple praise Mr Tharoor… Would not have understood something more magniloquent and sesquipedalian… ha ha.”

For the unversed, “magniloquent” refers to grandiose speech, while “sesquipedalian” describes someone who uses long, obscure words – classic Tharoor, and clearly not lost on King Khan.

In a heartfelt video message, Shah Rukh Khan had earlier expressed his gratitude for the honour, “Namaskar and Adab. Needless to say, I'm overwhelmed with gratitude, pride and humility. To be honoured with the National Award is a moment that I will cherish for a lifetime,” he said.

He extended thanks to the jury, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, his directors, producers, family, and millions of fans.

In a caption accompanying the post, he wrote, “Thank you for honouring me with the National Award. Thanks to the jury, the I&B ministry. Iss samman ke liye Bharat Sarkar ka dhanyawaad. Overwhelmed with the love showered upon me. Half a hug to everyone today.”

In the video, he signed off in classic SRK style, “I would love to spread my arms for you and share my love, but I'm a bit indisposed. But don't worry, just keep the popcorn ready. I'll be back in theaters and soon on the screen. So till then, just with one hand. Ready!"

‘Jawan’, directed by Atlee, was a high-voltage action entertainer that saw SRK play both a soldier and a vigilante. With its mix of social message, emotional depth, and stylised action, the film became the highest-grossing Hindi movie ever in India.

Up next, SRK will star in Siddharth Anand’s ‘King’, alongside Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone.
