‘Stree 2’ Director Comes Under Fire After Comparing Shraddha Kapoor To “Chudail”
‘Stree 2’ director Amar Kaushik is being criticised online after he compared Shraddha Kapoor to a “chudail”.
‘Stree 2’, starring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana and Pankaj Tripathi, was one of the biggest hits of 2024. The horror-comedy film grossed more than Rs 600 crore in India. However, the film's success was marred with credit controversy, with fans debating on social media which actor was most responsible for making the film a blockbuster. A year might have passed since the release of the film. However, the social media discourse surrounding the film is still on.
‘Stree 2’ director Amar Kaushik has now come under fire after comparing Shraddha Kapoor to a “chudail”.
The entire matter started with Amar Kaushik revealing how Shraddha's casting was done for the ‘Stree’ franchise. Speaking to Komal Nahta, the filmmaker said, “Shraddha ki casting (credit) puri ki puri Dinesh Vijan ko jaati hai. Woh Shraddha ke saath kisi flight mein aa rahe the, aur flight mein woh unko mili thi.”
He added, “Toh unhone bola, Amar woh jab hasti hai na toh ekdum Stree ki tarah, ekdum chudail ki tarah hasti hai, sorry Shraddha. So, aisa kuch bola tha unhone. Chudail bola tha ya kuch aur, I am not sure. Toh main jab unhe mila toh sabse pehle maine unko bola haso. But woh use nahi kari obviously she wasn't a character jo hasegi.”
This comment has not gone down well with fans of Shraddha Kapoor on social media. There are plenty of reactions, with netizens calling out Amar Kaushik for his statement.
“Hey @AmarKaushik, seems like you've forgotten who made #Stree2 a hit! When you need hype, you're all about @ShraddhaKapoor, but behind the scenes, you're mocking her? Not cool. Show some respect to the talent that brings you success,” wrote one user.

Another one said, “Whether you're a fan of Shraddha or not, but this is utter disgusting and disrespectful to speak about your leading lady at a public forum as a director, shame.”

Another Shraddha fan commented, “She always gets such disrespectful people whenever I see any interview about her or of hers. I feel those condescending things/actions of people, but I think maybe it's just my mind, but no, they are shameless craps, but her kindness no over kindness gives them the leverage to do so.”
“The guy was trying too hard to be funny but ended up being cringe,” tweeted another person.
“I watched, and others I know watched Stree 1 and Stree 2 only because of SHRADDHA KAPOOR,” wrote one user.
'Stree 2' earned more than Rs 800 crore worldwide. It also became the first non-action film to enter the Rs 500 crore club. The movie also featured cameos by Varun Dhawan, Tamannaah Bhatia and Akshay Kumar.
Amar Kaushik had earlier spoken about the credit war, saying that this has not affected the team's relationship with each other. Speaking to India Today about the same, Amar Kaushik said, “Honestly, fans of stars usually have this fight on social media where they claim their favourite actor should get all the credit for the movie. It is okay. It is really to each their own. Fans getting into a social media war over credits is common.”
“Also, when a film does well, people around [the stars] feed such things in the minds of everyone, including the cast, that they should get credit for the movie. Hence, I just went for a vacation to stay away from the noise because it is usually when you hit a certain mark is when it becomes easier to get trapped in such social media games,” he added.
Meanwhile, Maddock Films has announced ‘Stree 3’ will hit theatres on August 13, 2027.
