Twinkle Khanna Reveals She Survived “Only On Channa” For THIS Song With SRK
Twinkle Khanna revealed that she was “starving” to fit into catsuits for a song with Shah Rukh Khan.
Actress-turned-author Twinkle Khanna, who is married to Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, is known for her great sense of humour and unfiltered, strong opinions. She recently opened up about how she starved herself while shooting for the song ‘Mohabbat Ho Gayee’, which featured in the 1999 Bollywood movie ‘Baadshah’, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan. In a recent conversation with Shrayana Bhattacharya, Twinkle Khanna took a trip down the memory lane and revealed that she felt like a “ball of gas” while filming for the song with SRK.
In her recent interaction, Twinkle Khanna shared that she was basically starving and surviving on channa (roasted gram) to fit into catsuits and body-hugging outfits.
Twinkle Khanna said, “I know you see all these actresses saying that they don’t diet and they eat everything; it’s not true, most of them are starving. I was starving, if you want your stomach to be flat in all those catsuits that we used to wear—I don’t know why we wore them.”
She further said, “This was my own brainwave that I’m going to live on channa. For some reason, being Gujarati, I felt that was also cheap, and you know, I could get it easily wherever I went.”
Twinkle Khanna added, “So, this was my diet. And in this song he had to lift me up, and I was so scared that I would explode like the gas canisters in the Parliament, but I didn’t. So if you see my teeth clenching there, other things are also clenching and just holding on, but yes, I survived that bit as well.”
The Bollywood actress then talked about the reviews she got after the film was released. She said, “I did have a review from that movie which only centred around my navel, that was it. And at that time, nobody protested; this was perfectly fine. We didn’t think it was misogynistic. In fact, I think I thanked the writer.”
The 1999 Bollywood film ‘Baadshah’ was helmed by Mustan Burmawalla and Abbas Burmawalla. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan and Twinkle Khanna alongside Rakhee Gulzar, Johnny Lever and Amrish Puri in key roles.
For the unversed, Twinkle Khanna turned into an author after bidding her acting career goodbye. Twinkle Khanna is the author of ‘Pyjamas Are Forgiving’, ‘The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad’ and ‘Mrs Funnybones’. Twinkle is also an interior decorator and a film producer. She recently launched her latest book, ‘Welcome to Paradise’.
