We as a society are so obsessed with the idea of natural beauty that we have made plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures a taboo topic. This not only fuels denial by those who do get it done but also creates unrealistically high standards of beauty. Although the taboo surrounding plastic surgery is slowly decreasing, celebrities still often face criticism about everything they do. That’s why, even today, some celebrities continue to remain tight-lipped about going under the knife. But as conversations surrounding cosmetic procedures continue to become normalised, more celebrities are opening up about it.

Getting plastic surgery, Botox shots, fillers and other procedures to rectify and enhance features has been there forever. But getting cosmetic procedures done can sometimes also go horribly wrong. You ask why we are talking about it today? Recently, social media sensation and actress Uorfi Javed spoke at length about the disappointing results of her lip fillers and under-eye fillers.

While there are several celebrities who have gone under the needle, only a few have openly spoken about it. So, let’s take a look at the Indian actresses who got candid about their cosmetic procedures.

1. Uorfi Javed: The social media sensation recently took to Instagram to show the disappointing results of her under-eye fillers. She also revealed that she chose to get the procedure done after she was constantly trolled for her dark circles. Not just under eye fillers, she also shared a detailed post about her lip filler journey.

2. Priyanka Chopra Jonas: For years, there have been rumours claiming that the global star had gone under the knife. However, her surgery wasn’t to enhance her looks, rather it was an accident. Addressing the rumours in her memoir, Priyanka revealed that she had undergone surgery to treat a polyp in her nasal cavity after having trouble breathing.

"While shaving off the polyp, the doctor also accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed," she said, adding that she then had to undergo several corrective surgeries until her nose looked normal. "While it took a few years of seeing a stranger gazing back at me every time I looked in the mirror, I've gotten accustomed to this face," she wrote in her memoir.

3. Anushka Sharma: The actress made headlines after she appeared on ‘Koffee With Karan’ in 2014 when fans thought she had undergone a cosmetic procedure for fuller lips. However, the actress rubbished the rumours stating that she had been using a “temporary lip-enhancing tool”. Later in 2016, in an interview with Vogue magazine, she admitted to have gotten a “lip job”. She had said, “I have nothing to hide. So, when I spoke about my lip job, a lot of people called me brave for coming out. But I did what I had to for my role in Bombay Velvet. I’m not going to lie and say I didn’t; I had to take ownership. I wanted fans to know that I’m human and not perfect.”

4. Shilpa Shetty: One of the bolder actresses who never felt the need to hide the fact that she got a nose job done is Shilpa Shetty Kundra. She addressed it in a chat with Prabhu Chawla on Seedhi Baat during the early 2000s. She had said, “Yes, I got my nose fixed. So? I did not do it to make it more beautiful. I did it because I thought it could be better.”

The Bollywood actress was applauded for admitting that she did get her nose enhanced. She even went on to state that her sharp nose balances her other facial features well.

5. Shruti Haasan: In 2020, the Indian actress defended her decision to go under the knife, saying that she has the right to choose the way she looks. While making it clear that she didn't promote plastic surgery and was neither against it, she put up a lengthy Instagram post sharing that she believes that people should not be criticised for the way they choose to look.

Several other actresses including Rakhi Sawant, Koena Mitra, Gauahar Khan and Esha Gupta have previously spoken about getting cosmetic procedures done.
