Varun Dhawan has defended the Auschwitz scene in 'Bawaal'.

Nitesh Tiwari's 'Bawaal' starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles, released on Prime Video on July 21, and the new Hindi movie has become a hot topic of debate on social media. While some are absolutely loving the unique plot of the film, others are labelling the movie as "insensitive" and not aware of the surroundings. In the latest entertainment news, Varun Dhawan has responded to the criticism the film has been receiving for its insensitive parallels between the lead pair's romance and World War II.

For the unversed, a line in the film includes an Auschwitz survivor, who says: "every relationship goes through its Auschwitz," as he refers to Nazi Germany's concentration camp where countless Jews were murdered.

Another controversial line in the movie sees Janhvi Kapoor's character saying that every human has a Hitler within and that is why they turn greedy.

"Some people got triggered or sensitive about this. But I don't understand where does that sensitivity or trigger go when they watch, suppose an English film, I'm saying for example. They're allowed to do everything there, they're allowed to take leaps and they're allowed to show things in a certain way, but you'll find that correct. I know people have got very triggered after watching a small scene in a brilliant film, recently released," Varun Dhawan told Pinkvilla.

"It's a scene that's important to our culture and our country. But that's okay for you. You don't feel they should be more sensitive to you? So where does your criticism go then," he added.

When director Nitesh Tiwari was asked about the same, he said: "You start looking at a film with a magnifying glass, you'll find problem with every piece of work created. There's no piece of work without problem if you decide to watch it with a magnifying glass, which is not how a film should be watched.”

Varun Dhawan seemingly referred to the controversial Bhagavad Gita scene in Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer', that released in the theatres on the same day as 'Bawaal'.

The scene in 'Oppenheimer' shows the character of Robert Oppenheimer invoking the Bhagavad Gita while having intercourse with his girlfriend.

Many have objected to this particular scene, and I&B Minister Anurag Thakur has also pulled up the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for passing it, reported Hindustan Times.
