Vijay Sethupathi Reveals He Was “Afraid” Of Talking To Katrina Kaif While Shooting For ‘Merry Christmas’
Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi’s upcoming movie ‘Merry Christmas’, directed by Sriram Raghavan, will be released in theatres on January 12, 2024.
The wait to see two of the biggest Indian cinema stars, Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, on the silver screen together is almost over. The duo’s first collaboration ‘Merry Christmas’, directed by Sriram Raghavan, will hit theatres on 12 January 2024. Ahead of the film’s release, Katrina Kaif, in a recent interview, revealed that Vijay Sethupathi did not speak to her much during the filming. She said that after talking to Varun Dhawan, who has worked with Sriram Raghavan in ‘Badlapur’, she came to the conclusion that maybe the director had instructed him to not speak with her.
But South star Vijay Sethupathi, who was last seen alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara in ‘Jawan’, had another story to tell. Vijay Sethupathi said that he didn’t speak to Katrina Kaif because he was intimidated by her.
Katrina Kaif shared that Vijay Sethupathi is “very philosophical and he is very, very wise” and added that “he is not a big conversationalist, at least on the film.”
The actress also shared that she really liked working in the film but found it strange that people were not talking to her on set.
“I came to know later that Sriram sir possibly told people that they should not talk too much to me on set. Varun Dhawan told this to me. He was asking, ‘What’s it like working with Sriram sir?’ I said, ‘He is amazing, his world is amazing but nobody talks too much to me on set.’ I was really questioning myself. He said, ‘Don’t worry, he has told everyone not to talk to you.’ I don’t know if that’s true,” she shared while talking to Pinkvilla.
Sriram Raghavan immediately said, “I don’t think so.” Vijay Sethupathi then added, “No no, it was not like that. I’m afraid of you that’s why I didn’t. I am new to this industry. She is well experienced, she is big star here.”
This year, Vijay Sethupathi was seen in many successful pan-India projects. He was seen in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Jawan’, which is the biggest hit of 2023. He was also seen in Raj & DK’s ‘Farzi’ with Shahid Kapoor.
Coming back to ‘Merry Christmas’, the new Hindi movie has been shot in two languages -- Hindi and Tamil. ‘Merry Christmas’ is Sriram Raghavan's first film since the National award-winning ‘Andhadhun’ (2018) starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu and Radhika Apte.
The filmmaker is known for his neo-noir thrillers and ‘Merry Christmas’ is being touted as another suspense film with a twist.
Besides Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, the Hindi version of ‘Merry Christmas’ will also star Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand. Meanwhile, the Tamil version has Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Rajesh Williams.
Ashwini Kalsekar and Radhika Apte will be seen in an exciting cameo appearances. Reportedly, the crime thriller will revolve around an uneventful day that turns Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi’s worlds upside down. It is about an event that takes place on Christmas Eve.
