‘Jee Le Zaraa’ Shelved After Priyanka Chopra’s Rumoured Exit? Zoya Akhtar Breaks Silence
Zoya Akhtar recently addressed rumours surrounding Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas-starrer ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ getting shelved.
‘Jee Le Zaraa’, bringing three of the biggest female celebrities together – Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt, was announced back in August 2021. Fans were instantly excited to see a movie on film friendships from Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar after their superhit movies ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’. The Farhan Akhtar directorial is written by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar. Several reports have surfaced about the film. While some recent reports stated that Priyanka Chopra Jonas had to quit the project owing to date issues, other reports suggested that the movie is being shelved.
If you are one of those waiting to see the movie, we finally have an update on it. Zoya Akhtar recently addressed the rumours surrounding ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ getting shelved.
Speaking to India Today about ‘Jee Le Zaraa’, Zoya Akhtar said, “We are just waiting for the dates of the actors.”
While she didn’t clarify whether the film will be made with the same cast, or whether Priyanka Chopra Jonas has walked out of the project, Zoya Akhtar did quash the reports of the project being shelved.
There were also reports that another leading lady will replace Priyanka in the all-female buddy road movie. But nothing has been officially confirmed by the makers yet.
‘Jee Le Zaraa’ will mark Farhan Akhtar’s return to direction after ‘Don 2’ (2011). It was announced on the 20th anniversary of Farhan's directorial debut ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ in 2021.
Throughout the promotions of their different films, Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif have assured fans that 'Jee Le Zaraa' is in the works.
Meanwhile, in March this year, Farhan Akhtar shared a picture on Instagram as he commenced the recce of ‘Jee Le Zaraa’. In the picture, he can be seen exploring the deserts of Rajasthan.
Farhan Akhtar tagged Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, and Katrina Kaif on the post, and wrote, “Searching for gold #locationscout #jeelezaraa #rajasthan".
Alia Bhatt commented, “Can't waittttt,” while Katrina wrote, “So exciting.”
But looks like Farhan Akhtar will mark his directorial return with ‘Don 3’ instead. While Shah Rukh Khan, who played the titular character in the first two parts, reportedly opted out of the threequel, Ranveer Singh seems to be the frontliner to lead ‘Don 3’ as of now.
Meanwhile, Zoya Akhtar is back as the creator and director of ‘Made in Heaven’ Season 2 along with Reema Kagti. The series will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 10, 2023.
