“Not Acceptable”: Sherlyn Chopra On Deepika Padukone Wearing "Saffron Bikini" In 'Besharam Rang'
Sherlyn Chopra, reacting to the ‘Besharam Rang’ controversy, said Deepika Padukone wearing a "saffron bikini" in the 'Pathaan' song was "not acceptable".
‘Besharam Rang’, the first song from Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s ‘Pathaan’, has been in the eye of a storm ever since it released. While fans loved SRK and Deepika’s sizzling chemistry, the song has landed the movie in trouble. Several celebrities are supporting Deepika Padukone, but Sherlyn Chopra has voiced her opinion against the actress wearing a saffron-coloured bikini in 'Besharam Rang'. Sherlyn Chopra criticised Deepika Padukone for donning a saffron bikini, saying that it is "not acceptable".
For the unversed, after the song released, #BoycottPathaan began trending on Twitter as many raised concerns over the “vulgar visuals” and expressed displeasure over the saffron-coloured bikini that Deepika donned in the song.
Sherlyn Chopra sided with Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra over his remarks on Deepika Padukone’s bikini in ‘Besharam Rang’.
Sherlyn Chopra, as quoted by India Today, called Deepika a “sympathiser of Tukde Tukde gang”.
Speaking on the ‘Besharam Rang’ controversy, Sherlyn said, "I completely agree with Narottam Mishra ji, Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh, who upon being asked about Aamir Khan doing Kalash Pooja and Shah Rukh Khan offering prayers to Vaishnodevi Maa, said that people can offer prayers to whomsoever they believe in but at the same time, they must be mindful of other peoples’ beliefs and sentiments."
"Deepika Padukone, the sympathiser of Tukde Tukde gang gyrating in a saffron coloured bikini in a film song titled ‘Besharam Rang’ is most certainly not acceptable to the millions of Hindus who consider saffron as the colour of purity, faith and devotion,” the actress added.
Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra has also threatened to stall the release of 'Pathaan' if the outfits in the song are not changed or "corrected".
Many politicians and few others have expressed their disappointment on Twitter, mocking the scenes from the song. Effigies of SRK were also burnt in Indore by protesters.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, ‘Pathaan', which also stars John Abraham, is set to hit theatres on January 25, 2023.
