'Bheed' Director Anubhav Sinha's Big Statement, Reveals When Industry Wanted "Shah Rukh Khan To Fail"
Director Anubhav Sinha has spoken of a time when the industry wanted "Shah Rukh Khan to fail".
Director Anubhav Sinha is awaiting the release of his upcoming film titled 'Bheed'. The new Hindi Bollywood movie, starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar, is in the midst of a controversy for comparing the Covid-19 induced lockdown to India-Pakistan partition that took place in 1947. 'Bheed' is being touted as a hard-hitting film which will shed light on the fabric of Indian society. For the unversed, Anubhav Sinha is famous for directing movies like 'Ra.One', 'Tum Bin', 'Dus', 'Mulk', 'Article 15' and 'Thappad'.
Recently, Anubhav Sinha gave an interview to Variety, where he talked about 'Ra.One' and how the industry wanted Shah Rukh Khan to fail when the movie had released in 2011.
“Today, ‘Ra.One’ is a hit, but when it released, they called it a flop. That was a time when the industry wanted Shah Rukh to fail, because they couldn’t deal with this size. Then ‘Tum Bin 2’ failed,” Sinha told Variety.
'Ra. One' which released in 2011, also starred Kareena Kapoor, Armaan Verma, Shahana Goswami, Tom Wu, Dalip Tahil and Satish Shah in supporting roles.
Talking about 'Bheed', Anubhav Sinha said: "When the pandemic hit, people were seeking help on Twitter. Everybody had different strengths so we were helping each other and, and I really got sucked into it. And that was the time when I felt that this film had to be made, this period of time has to be recorded, and I didn’t want it to be just a Coronavirus film."
"I’ve put in a Bob Marley quote in the beginning of the film, ‘If you know your history, then you would know where you coming from’," he added.
The cast of new Hindi Bollywood movie 'Bheed' includes Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar, Pankaj Kapur, Ashutosh Rana, Dia Mirza, Virendra Saxena, Aditya Shrivastava, Kritika Kamra and Karan Pandit.
The new Hindi Bollywood movie is slated to release in the theatres on March 24.
