“Victim Of Controversy”: Ex-CBFC Chief Pahlaj Nihalani Extends Support To SRK, Deepika’s ‘Pathaan’
After CBFC's decision of advising ‘Pathaan’ makers to revise certain parts of the film, ex-CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani extended support to the movie’s team. Read on to know what he said.
Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s upcoming film ‘Pathaan’ and its first song 'Besharam Rang' have become a hot topic of debate with several people giving their two cents on the song. After Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) decision of advising the film’s makers to revise certain parts of the movie and the track, former CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani extended support to the upcoming film and called it a “victim of controversy”.
‘Besharam Rang’, which features Deepika Padukone and SRK, was embroiled in a controversy over a saffron-coloured bikini and bold outfits worn by the ‘Piku’ actress.
The CBFC chairman Prasoon Joshi recently asked the makers to follow the guidelines and submit the revised version before the theatrical release of the film.
After this development, ex-CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani spoke to ETimes and weighed upon the ‘Besharam Rang’ controversy.
Expressing his views on the matter, Pahlaj Nihalani said, "The examining committee has suggested modification after viewing the film. There’s no guideline that states that a colour can be cut. You can suggest changes if there’s vulgarity or obscenity. But if they ask for cuts because of a colour, it would be a wrong proceeding. There could be pressure from the ministry."
"It is the committee’s right to decide what cuts and modifications are needed. They will have to see the revised version. Prasoon Joshi might have given a statement but he has no right to watch Pathaan with the examining committee. He must have got pressure from the ministry to see the film carefully because of saffron colour. If they suggest a cut because of a colour then it would be a wrong proceeding,” Pahlaj Nihalani added.
Commenting further on the ongoing controversy, Pahlaj Nihalani said, "Pathaan is a victim of controversy. The CBFC must have got pressurized from the ministry to delete this portion of saffron colour. Otherwise they had cleared the costume and the shot in the trailer."
'Pathaan', slated to release on January 25, also stars John Abraham. ‘Pathaan’, which marks SRK’s comeback after the 2018 Bollywood film ‘Zero’, is directed by Siddharth Anand of ‘War’ fame.
