"Gave Me Maa, Behen Ki Gaali": Neena Gupta Reveals Director Abused Her In Front Of Juhi Chawla, Vinod Khanna
Actress Neena Gupta recalled an incident, where a director gave her "maa, behen ki gaali" and how that incident made her cry.
Neena Gupta is one of the most versatile actors to come from the Hindi film industry and to date, she has managed to find roles that somehow break the stereotype. 'Badhaai Ho' comes to mind where she played the mother of Ayushmann Khurrana's character and how she ends up getting pregnant at a reasonably old age. The veteran actress has been working in the industry since the 1980s and now she has recalled a chat with a director, where she was abused.
She said that the director gave her "maa, behen ki gaali" and the incident eventually made her cry. She also said that the director abused him in front of Juhi Chawla and Vinod Khanna.
Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Neena Gupta was asked whether she can share any anecdote from working in the 1980s and to this question, she said: "I was doing a film and I had a very small role in it. I just had 2-3 dialogues in a scene. I was in a larger group. On the day of the shoot, those dialogues were also cut. I had no role left."
“I went up to the director and said I just had two lines and you’ve cut those as well. He gave me maa, behen ki gaali in front of everybody. Vinod Khanna was there, Juhi Chawla, everybody and I just started crying because he abused me in front of everyone," she stated further.
However, Neena Gupta said that incidents like these cannot happen now with her in particular.
“I don’t think this happens today, or maybe it happens but I am not in the same position. No one would give me maa, behen ki gaalis today," she said.
The seasoned actress was seen in 'Masaba Masaba Season 2', 'Goodbye', 'Uunchai' and 'Vadh' in 2022.
