"India Is...": Akshay Kumar’s HUGE Statement As He Decides To Renounce Canadian Passport
Here's what actor Akshay Kumar said about his intention to give up Canadian citizenship.
Actor Akshay Kumar enjoys a massive fan following in India and he always trends on Twitter, whenever a new release of the actor is around the corner. However, there are some who also troll the actor every now and then, and the reason being -- his Canadian citizenship. However, in a fresh interview, Akshay Kumar was at his candid best and he reacted to the criticism he faces often, saying he has already applied for a change of passport. “India is everything to me. Whatever I have earned, whatever I have gained is from here. And I’m fortunate that I get a chance to give back. You feel bad when people say things without knowing anything," Akshay Kumar said on the new season of Seedhi Baat on Aaj Tak, as reported by the news agency PTI.
The 'Namastey London' also spoke about why he applied for a Canadian passport, saying the poor box office performance of his few films pushed him to apply for it.
“I thought that ‘Bhai, my films are not working and one has to work’. I went there for work. My friend was in Canada and he said, ‘Come here’. I applied and I got in. I had just two films left for release and it is just luck that they both became superhits. My friend said, Go back, start working again," said Akshay.
"I got some more films and I kept getting more work. I forgot that I had the passport. I never thought that I should get this passport changed but now yes, I have applied to get my passport changed," he added.
Akshay Kumar's citizenship became a huge talking point after he interviewed Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
The actor's new movie 'Selfiee' released in theatres on Friday (February 24). The movie has received mixed reviews. However, the audience has not been keen on visiting the theatre to watch the flick and the box office collection is the evidence. On its opening day, 'Selfiee' collected less than Rs 3 crore and the movie is poised to be Akshay's fifth flop in a row.
Besides Akshay Kumar, ‘Selfiee’ also stars Emraan Hashmi, Nushrratt Bharuccha, and Diana Penty. ‘Selfiee’ is the Hindi remake of the Malayalam film ‘Driving Licence’, which starred Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead roles.
