‘The Kashmir Files’ To ‘Kantara’, List Of Indian Movies That Joined 100 Crore Club In 2022
2022 saw a huge number of movie releases in theatres. In this year-ender, we present you a list of the Indian films that became a part of the Rs 100 crore club.
The coronavirus pandemic had put a halt to virtually everything with several countries imposing severe measures to curb the deadly outbreak. The Indian entertainment industry also faced the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic. After a prolonged shutdown due to COVID-19, cinema halls finally reopened in October 2021. While the health crisis adversely affected the entertainment industry which was still dealing with the aftereffects of the lockdown, it returned with full force in 2022.
While some of the big-budget Bollywood films tanked at the box office, there were some movies that emerged as blockbusters and entered the Rs 100 crore club.
As the year comes to an end, let's take a look at films like ‘Kantara' and ‘Drishyam 2’, which performed extraordinarily well at the box office, and became a part of the Rs 100 crore club.

1. ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’: Alia Bhatt-starrer ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, released on February 25, 2022. The biographical drama, which also starred Ajay Devgn, set the cash registers ringing at the box office. It went on to earn Rs 132 crore at the domestic box office and its total worldwide collection stood at Rs 211 crore.
2. ‘RRR’: SS Rajamouli’s directorial, featuring Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles, was among the biggest blockbusters in 2022. The magnum opus, also starring Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt and Olivia Morris, earned gross Rs 902 crore in India and collected nearly Rs 1,000 crore at the box office worldwide.
3. ‘KGF: Chapter 2’: Yash-starrer action-packed sequel to the 2018 hit ‘KGF: Chapter 1’ was made on a budget of over Rs 100 crore and managed to rake in nearly Rs 1,000 crore domestically and Rs 1,200 crore worldwide. The South movie, helmed by Prashanth Neel, also featured Raveena Tandon and Sanjay Dutt.
4. ‘The Kashmir Files’: The heart-wrenching film, starring Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and Darshan Kumaar, was helmed by Vivek Agnihotri. The movie went on to become one of the most successful films of 2022 and collected over Rs 200 crores at the box office.
5. ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’: Directed by Anees Bazmee, the horror-comedy, which starred Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, and Tabu in the lead roles, was one of the biggest hits of 2022. The film collected approximately Rs 266 crore at the box office.
6. 'Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’: Helmed by Ayan Mukerji, the movie starred Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Mouni Roy in the lead roles. The fantasy adventure film, which featured cameos from Shah Rukh Khan and Nagarjuna, had collected Rs 75 crore on its opening day. It went on to mint nearly Rs 431 crore.
7. ‘Ponniyin Selvan-1’: The Mani Ratnam directorial became the highest-grossing movie of all time in Tamil Nadu. The period drama, starring Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi and Trisha, managed to gross Rs 335 crore in India and Rs 500 crore worldwide.
8. ‘Kantara’: A small-budget film, which captured a riveting story of ‘Bhoota Kola’ from the hinterlands of Karnataka, starred Rishab Shetty in the lead role. The movie collected over Rs 393.3 crore worldwide and a sequel is in the works.
9. ‘Drishyam 2’: The mystery thriller, starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Akshaye Khanna, opened at the ticket windows on November 18 with Rs 15.38 crore. Helmed by Abhishek Pathak, the film went on to earn over Rs 200 crore at the domestic box office.
10. ‘Vikram’: The action thriller, starring Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil, managed to rake in over Rs 432 crore worldwide. Helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the movie ended its theatrical run at Rs 306 crore gross at the Indian box office.
