A war of words erupted between filmmakers Vivek Agnihotri and Anurag Kashyap on Twitter after ‘The Kashmir Files’ director hit back at Anurag Kashyap over his recent remark. It all started on Tuesday when Vivek Agnihotri expressed his disagreement over Anurag Kashyap’s views on how South Indian films have led to Bollywood destroying itself. Vivek Agnihotri shared a screengrab of an article with the headline "Films Like Kantara And Pushpa are destroying the industry: Kashyap.”

Disagreeing with Anurag Kashyap's statement, Vivek Agnihotri wrote along with the screengrab, "I totally totally totally disagree with the views of Bollywood’s one & only Milord. Do you agree?"

In response to this, the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ director commented on the research that goes into Vivek Agnihotri's films.

This statement didn’t sit well with Vivek Agnihotri, who then posted a scathing tweet in which he asked Anurag Kashyap to prove his research for ‘The Kashmir Files’ was wrong. He also indirectly took a jab at Kashyap’s recent directorial ‘Dobaaraa’.

For the unversed, in a round table interaction with Galatta Plus, Anurag Kashyap had said, "With pan-India, what is happening right now is that everybody is trying to make a pan-India film. Success will be 5-10%. Films like Kantara and Pushpa give you the courage to go out and tell your stories."

He added, "But KGF 2, however big the success, when you try and emulate that and set a project up, that’s when you start heading towards disaster. That’s the bandwagon that Bollywood destroyed itself on."

Bollywood only had a handful of successes in 2022 including ‘The Kashmir Files’, while the South Indian movie industry performed extraordinarily well with films like ‘RRR’, ‘KGF 2’, ‘PS1’ and ‘Kantara’.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Vivek Agnihotri has recently started the shooting of his next film 'The Vaccine War', which will release on Independence Day 2023. Anurag Kashyap, on the other hand, recently directed the suspense thriller 'Dobaaraa'.
