Vivek Agnihotri claims getting death threats amid 'Pathaan' controversy

'The Kashmir Files' director Vivek Agnihotri has alleged that he has been receiving death threats amidst the ongoing controversy regarding Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming movie 'Pathaan'. The entire saga unfolded after Agnihotri shared a video of a woman criticising the video for 'Pathaan' song 'Besharam Rang'. After that post, Agnihotri was trolled on social media and several users brought up his old video where he was promoting his movie 'Hate Story' in 2012.

Taking to Twitter, Agnihotri tweeted: "Badshah was right. There is negativity on social media (But we are positive).

In his tweet, Agnihotri also attached some screenshots of fans abusing him, and one user had also issued a death threat.

Agnihotri cited Shah Rukh Khan's speech at the Kolkata International Film Festival where the 'Chak de India' actor had spoken about the negativity around social media and how he manages to stay positive.

“Cinema and the advent of articulation through social media platforms have now become the foremost expression of human emotions and experience. The collective narrative of our times is shaped by social media and contrary to the belief that the spread of social media will affect the cinema negatively, I believe cinema has an even more important role to play now," Shah Rukh Khan said in his speech.

“I read somewhere negativity increases social media consumption and thereby increases its commercial value as well. Such pursuits enclose the collective narrative, making it divisive and destructive," he added.

'Pathaan’ will release in theatres on January 25 and this will be the first time in over four years, that Shah Rukh Khan will star in a full-length feature film.
