Yash Chopra's Wife Pamela Dies

Pamela Chopra, the wife of late director Yash Chopra, died in Mumbai on Thursday.

Pamela Chopra, the wife of late director Yash Chopra, died aged 85 in Mumbai on Thursday.

There is some sad news coming in! Pamela Chopra, the wife of late director Yash Chopra died on Thursday in Mumbai. “She passed away today. She was on ventilator in Lilavati hospital for 15 days. She had pneumonia,” Dr Prahlad Prabhudesai confirmed to the Indian Express. Pamela Chopra was the mother of Yash Raj Films head Aditya Chopra and actor Uday Chopra. For the unversed, Pamela Chopra was a frequent collaborator with her late husband Yash Chopra and she has often been credited as the writer, costume designer and singer in some popular films.

"With heavy hearts, the Chopra family would like to inform that Pamela Chopra, 74, passed away this morning. Her cremation took place at 11 am today in Mumbai. Her most famous songs include Chandni’s ‘Main Sasural Nahi Jaungi’ and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’s ‘Ghar Aaja Pardesi’. In both the songs, she has shared credit with Manpreet Kaur.

The story of 1976-film 'Kabhi Kabhie' was also written by her and she also shared the credit as a designer for 1981 movie 'Silsila'.

In an interview with news agency PTI, Aditya Chopra's wife and actress Rani Mukerji had revealed how Pamela Chopra's influence helped Yash Chopra write fledged-out roles for women in his movies.

“I truly believe it had to do a lot with Pam Aunty’s (Pamela Chopra) influence in his life that drove him to write such beautiful parts for women. I have always been in awe of how he presented his heroines on screen, and secretly always wished to be the quintessential ‘Yash Chopra heroine’,” she said. 

Pamela Chopra had also made an appearance in this year's Netflix documentary titled 'The Romantics'. 

Not many people would know but Yash Chopra and Pamela Chopra had featured in a still in the opening credits of Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor-starrer 'Dil Toh Pagal Hai'.
