Akshay Kumar’s new Hindi movie 'Mission Raniganj' did not have a good opening weekend.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who was last seen in the August 2023 release ‘OMG 2’, delivered a hit in the form of the movie, which featured Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam in lead roles. Despite tough competition from Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’, ‘OMG 2’ managed to collect Rs 150 crore in India. After 'OMG 2', fans expected 'Mission Raniganj' to continue the winning streak of Akshay Kumar. However, ‘Mission Raniganj’ did not have a good opening weekend, and the new Hindi film has recorded a disastrous start at the box office.

As per industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Mission Raniganj', which also stars Parineeti Chopra, has registered an opening weekend of just Rs 12.15 crore. The latest Akshay Kumar film had opened to a collection of Rs 2.8 crore.

Then on Saturday, 'Mission Raniganj' showed some growth as it collected Rs 4.50 crore. Sunday should have brought in more growth, but the collections were just Rs 4.80 crore. The collections on Sunday might have been impacted by the Cricket World Cup 2023 match between India and Australia.

'Mission Raniranj' is just marginally ahead of Akshay Kumar's 'Selfiee', which had registered an opening weekend of Rs 10.30 crore.

Post the Covid-19 pandemic, Akshay Kumar has had a difficult time at the box office, with the only exceptions being 'Sooryavanshi' and 'OMG 2'.

The actor would now hope to have a better 2024 with releases like 'Soorarai Pottru' remake, Ali Abbas Zafar’s 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan', 'Sky Force' and 'Welcome to the Jungle'.

Speaking of 'Mission Raniganj', the movie also stars Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan, Varun Badola, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in pivotal roles.

The new Hindi movie has been directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, while it has been produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, and Ajay Kapoor.

For the unversed, 'Mission Raniganj' is based on a real-life incident that happened in Raniganj Coalfields, West Bengal, in 1989. During that time, 64 miners were trapped in a flooded coal mine, and engineer Jaswant Singh Gill ended up risking his life to rescue the miners.

Talking about Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' which released in theatres on September 7, the film added Rs 2.75 crore to its collection on Sunday, and the total nett collection across all languages stands at Rs 623.91 crore.

'Fukrey 3', which hit theatres on September 28, collected Rs 4.30 crore on Sunday, and the total collection now stands at Rs 76.15 crore.

The movie starring Richa Chadha, Pulkit Samrat, Pankaj Tripathi, Varun Sharma and Manjot Singh has emerged as a clear hit at the box office.
