Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna-Starrer ‘Animal’ Registers Its Lowest Single Day Haul Yet
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, is now the fifth biggest Hindi movie of all time in India.
‘Animal’, directed by filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga of ‘Arjun Reddy’ and ‘Kabir Singh’ fame, released in theatres on December 1 alongside Meghna Gulzar’s latest directorial venture ‘Sam Bahadur’. The new Hindi movie, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri, has been a major talking point on social media for problematic content. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial, which has already made more than Rs 400 crore in India, registered its lowest single-day haul on the 11th day of its release, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk.
But even the new Hindi movie’s lowest day is bigger than the opening days of many Bollywood movies in 2023. On its second Monday, ‘Animal’ minted Rs 13 crore across all languages, and this marks a 65.28 per cent decline from Sunday's collection which stood at Rs 36 crore.
The total domestic nett collection of ‘Animal’ now stands at Rs 443.27 crore, with Rs 400.37 crore coming from the Hindi version, Rs 38.8 cr from Telugu, Rs 3.43 cr from Tamil and Rs 0.56 cr and Rs 0.11 cr from Kannada and Malayalam versions respectively, as reported by Sacnilk.
With this, ‘Animal’ has now overtaken the Hindi version of 'KGF: Chapter 2', and the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer is now the fifth highest grossing Hindi movie of all time, only behind 'Jawan', 'Gadar 2', 'Pathaan' and ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’.
For the unversed, 'Animal' is based on Ranbir Kapoor’s character Ranvijay, who seeks revenge after a failed assassination attempt on his father, played by Anil Kapoor.
Some are hailing 'Animal' for its top-notch performances (Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Tripti Dimri), while others are dissing it for glorifying toxic masculinity and violence.
The box office performance of 'Animal' is nothing short of phenomenal, looking at its runtime of more than three hours. Not to forget, the film also received an 'A' (adults only) certificate.
For the unversed, 'Animal' was not a solo release on December 1, as it hit the theatres on the same day as 'Sam Bahadur', starring Vicky Kaushal, Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Sam Bahadur' minted Rs 2 crore on Monday, and now the total collection stands at Rs 58.55 crore.
'Sam Bahadur' is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 55 crore, hence the film has recovered its budget and the film is looking at a lifetime business of Rs 75-80 crore.
'Sam Bahadur' and 'Animal' should keep running successfully in theatres till December 21, until the release of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Dunki'. Not to forget, Prabhas' 'Salaar' will also be releasing in cinemas on December 22.
