Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’ Beats Lifetime Collection Of Salman Khan's ‘Tiger 3’ In Just 6 Days
‘Animal’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, is showing no signs of slowing down at the domestic box office.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s new directorial venture ‘Animal’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, is showing no signs of slowing down at the domestic box office. Despite an 'A' (adults only) certificate, a runtime of more than three hours, poor reviews from critics and constant scrutiny around the film, ‘Animal’ continues to rake in the moolah. And it is safe to say that the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer is going to challenge the collection Shah Rukh Khan's ‘Jawan’ at the box office.
For the unversed, SRK's ‘Jawan’, which also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra and Deepika Padukone, is currently the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
Coming back to Sandeep Reddy Vanga's ‘Animal’, the new Hindi movie minted Rs 30 crore on Wednesday (Day 6 of its release), as per early estimates posted by industry tracker Sacnilk. The total six-day collection of ‘Animal’ currently stands at Rs 312.96 crore, across all languages.
‘Animal’ is now the fourth-biggest Bollywood movie of 2023 after ‘Jawan’, ‘Gadar 2’, and ‘Pathaan’. ‘Jawan’ made Rs 643.87 crore in India, while ‘Pathaan’ made Rs 543.05 crore.
Sunny Deol's ‘Gadar 2’ made Rs 525.45 crore. ‘Animal’ has already surpassed the lifetime collection of Salman Khan's ‘Tiger 3’, which had made Rs 284.05 crore.
Globally, ‘Animal’ has gone past the Rs 500 crore mark, and it remains to be seen whether it manages to go past the Rs 1,000 crore mark. On Wednesday, overall occupancy of ‘Animal’ was 48.25 per cent.
‘Animal’ is now the third consecutive success for Sandeep Reddy Vanga as he had earlier delivered blockbusters in the form of ‘Arjun Reddy’ and its Hindi remake ‘Kabir Singh’.
Speaking of ‘Animal’, the new Hindi film has been generating some polarising reactions with many deriding the new Hindi movie for its violent protagonist, showcasing toxic masculinity and problematic behaviour towards women.
Bobby Deol, in an interview with news agency PTI, had opened up on the criticism of the film.
“Filmmakers create stories for people to be entertained. This kind of toxicity and all of this exists in our society… Somewhere people can identify with it. But there will always be people who won’t like it, nothing can be liked by every individual… I think we are entertainers and we want to do different kinds of genres. That’s how I look at it,” the actor said.
This box office performance of ‘Animal’ is huge considering it is an ‘A’ (adults only) film and has a runtime of more than three hours. ‘Animal’ also clashed with Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Sam Bahadur’ at the box office. Both the new Hindi movies released in cinemas on December 1.
Talking about ‘Sam Bahadur’, the Vicky Kaushal, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra-starrer, directed by Meghna Gulzar, made Rs 3.30 crore on Wednesday, taking the six-day total to Rs 35.85 crore.
However, it can be safely said that ‘Animal’ is expected to rule the ticket counters until Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ releases in theatres on December 21. A day later, Prabhas’ ‘Salaar’ will also be releasing in theatres.
