‘Article 370’ Goes Past Rs 50 Crore In India, ‘Dune: Part Two’ Performs Better Than ‘Laapataa Ladies’ On Opening Weekend
‘Article 370’ has gone past the Rs 50 crore mark in India, while ‘Dune: Part Two’ performed better than Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’ on the opening weekend.
Yami Gautam and Priyamani’s ‘Article 370’, which released in cinemas on February 23, is managing to do well at the box office. The new Hindi movie, reportedly made on a budget of Rs 20 crore, earned decent amount of money in its second weekend. As a result, ‘Article 370’ has finally managed to go past the Rs 50 crore mark in India. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Article 370’ minted Rs 6.35 crore on Sunday, which was the 10th day of its release.
The total nett domestic collection of ‘Article 370’ now stands at Rs 50.45 crore. The new Hindi movie has till March 8 to keep earning money at a brisk pace. On March 8, Ajay Devgn, Jyotika and R Madhavan-starrer ‘Shaitaan’ will be releasing in cinemas, and this might slow down the progress of ‘Article 370’.
For the unversed, ‘Article 370’, which has been directed by Aditya Suhas Jhambale and backed by Aditya Dhar, is based on the revoking of the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking about Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’, which was released in cinemas on March 1, earned Rs 1.80 crore on Sunday, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. The total nett domestic collection of the new Hindi movie now stands at Rs 4 crore.
On the other hand, Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya-starrer ‘Dune: Part Two’ earned Rs 4 crore on Sunday, as per Sacnilk. The new Hollywood film has now minted Rs 11.25 crore in India.
‘Laapataa Ladies’ is set in rural India, and the film revolves around two young brides, who end up getting separated during a train journey. The movie stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan, and Chhaya Kadam.
On the other hand, ‘Dune: Part Two’ resumes the story of Paul Atreides (Chalamet) as he joins forces with the Fremen to save the galaxy from the Harkonnen empire. In ‘Dune: Part One’, the Harkonnen empire was responsible for the death of Paul's father.
Apart from Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, 'Dune: Part Two' also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux and Austin Butler.
Lastly, speaking of Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon's ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’, the Hindi film earned Rs 1.45 crore on Sunday, which was the 24th day of its release. As per Sacnilk, the movie's total earnings in India stand at Rs 79.80 crore.
