Box Office Collection: ‘Fighter’ Nosedives On Second Monday, Manages To Cross Rs 300 Crore Globally
'Fighter’, starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, is witnessing a weird trend at the domestic box office.
Siddharth Anand's third collaboration with Hrithik Roshan in the form of ‘Fighter’, is witnessing a weird trend at the domestic box office. It is safe to say that no other Hindi movie in recent times has seen a similar trajectory. ‘Fighter’, co-starring Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi, and Sanjeeda Shaikh, released in theatres on January 25. It managed to reclaim lost ground in its second weekend, after a dull first week. However, on its second Monday, the aerial actioner barely found any takers and the box office collection nosedived once again.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the Day 12 collection of ‘Fighter’ was Rs 3.35 crore, and hence the total nett domestic collection now stands at Rs 178.60 crore.
It looks unlikely that the new Hindi movie will manage to go past the Rs 200 crore mark, considering Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ is slated to release in cinemas on Friday, February 9.
Globally, 'Fighter' has managed to go past the Rs 300 crore mark. For the unversed, Hrithik Roshan and Siddharth Anand have a strong track record. They delivered a blockbuster in the form of ‘War’ in 2019 as it made more than Rs 315 crore at the domestic box office.
Their 2014 collaboration in the form of ‘Bang Bang’ also turned out to be successful as it made more than Rs 180 crore in India.
Earlier, Siddharth Anand had defended the underwhelming box office performance of ‘Fighter’, saying 90 per cent of Indians have not taken a flight, hence it is hard for them to relate to the aerial action sequences in the film.
“Another thing is the genre. Fighter is a huge leap for a filmmaker. It’s a space that is unexplored and absolutely new. It has no reference point for the audience. They are like, ‘What are these planes doing?',” Siddharth Anand said in an interview with Galatta Plus.
“There is a huge percentage of our country, I would say, 90 per cent, who have not flown in planes, who have not been to an airport, so how would they know what’s happening in the movie? This is my dissection. They felt this is a little alien. They didn’t understand what kind of exhilaration they are supposed to feel in the air action, so there is a certain initial disconnect. But once you enter the theatre, you realise this is such a basic film,” he added.
