Rajinikanth's 'Jailer' Becomes Biggest Tamil Opener Of 2023, Collects More Than Rs 50 Crore On Day 1 In India
Box office report: Rajinikanth-starrer 'Jailer' has made a flying start at the box office, collecting more than Rs 50 crore on Day 1.
Rajinikanth-starrer 'Jailer' released in theatres on Thursday (August 10) and there was a celebratory mood in India, especially in the southern states. In the latest entertainment news, the new Tamil movie grossed Rs 52 crore on the opening day in India, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. As a result, 'Jailer' has now become the biggest Tamil opener of 2023 in India.
The nett collections of the movie stands at Rs 44.5 crore. For the unversed, 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' had earlier helmed the biggest Tamil opener of 2023 after it grossed Rs 32 crore on the opening day.
As per Sacnilk, 'Jailer' recorded a massive 78.62 per cent occupancy throughout the day. Of the movie's Rs 52 crore gross collection, Tamil Nadu accounted for Rs 23 crore while Karnataka delivered Rs 11 crore.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana brought in Rs 10 crore each while Kerala registered Rs 5 crore.
As per trade analyst Ramesh Bala, 'Jailer' has already collected more than USD 1.45 million in the US, which is more than Thalapathy Vijay's 'Varisu'.
For the unversed, 'Jailer' has released across a mammoth 900 theatres in Tamil Nadu.
The new Tamil movie has been directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and it has been bankrolled by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner.
Apart from Rajinikanth, 'Jailer' also stars Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vinayakan and Yogi Babu.
With 'Jailer', Rajinikanth returned to the silver screen after a gap of two years. The movie is also Rajinikanth’s first collaboration with director Nelson Dilipkumar.
Talking about Rajinikanth, the actor will next be seen in 'Lal Salaam'. He is also rumoured to be joining forces with Lokesh Kanagaraj for his next film.
