‘Jawan’ Box Office Collection Day 1: SRK-Starrer Scripts History, Beats ‘Pathaan’ To Become Biggest Hindi Opener Of All Time
Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara’s ‘Jawan’ has beaten ‘Pathaan’ to become the biggest opener of all time in Bollywood.
‘Jawan’, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, and Vijay Sethupathi, released worldwide on September 7. And looking at the box office numbers of its opening day, it is safe to say that SRK has packed a punch with ‘Jawan’. This is SRK’s second film of 2023 after he delivered the blockbuster hit ‘Pathaan’ earlier this year, which went on to become the highest-grossing Hindi movie of all time. King Khan’s ‘Jawan’ has already started shattering box office records as the new movie crossed the Rs 50 crore mark on the first day of its release.
What’s more? ‘Jawan’ has also overtaken ‘Pathaan’ to deliver the biggest opening ever for a Hindi-language film. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Jawan’ earned Rs 75 crore nett in India on its first day for all languages, as per early estimates. The film earned Rs 65 crore nett in Hindi, Rs 5 crore nett in Tamil and Rs 5 crore nett in Telugu.
‘Pathaan’ made Rs 57 crore on opening, setting a new record in January 2023. It made Rs 70 crore on its second day, and ultimately finished its run with Rs 543 crore.
With its first day collection, ‘Jawan’ has delivered the biggest single-day collection for a Hindi film and has become the first Bollywood movie to make more than Rs 60 crore on opening day. Janamashtmi 2023 gave the movie a boost and its collection is only expected to skyrocket over the weekend.
‘Jawan’ is now the fourth-biggest opener in the history of Indian cinema, behind ‘RRR’ (Rs 223.5 crore), ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ (Rs 214.5 crore) and ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ (Rs 164.5 crores).
Directed by Atlee, the new movie has been produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma under Red Chillies Entertainment. It also features Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Sunil Grover, Yogi Babu, and Ridhi Dogra, among others. The new movie also stars Deepika Padukone in a cameo appearance.
Billed as a high-octane thriller, ‘Jawan’ follows the story of a man set out to correct the wrongs of society. The film also touches upon issues like government apathy, corruption, farmers suicide, a healthcare system in shambles, faulty army weapons and dangerous factories set near residential areas.
