Kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency' crossed the Rs 10 crore mark in its first weekend.

Kangana Ranaut's latest directorial 'Emergency' is witnessing a better run at the box office than her previous releases such as 'Tejas' and 'Dhaakad'. However, the collections of the new Hindi movie, which released in theatres on January 17, continue to remain on the lower side. 'Emergency', in which Kangana Ranaut plays the role of the former India Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, registered a rise in its box office collection on Sunday. On the third day of its release, ‘Emergency’ earned Rs 4.35 crore, taking the total nett collection to Rs 10.45 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.

The film had opened to a nominal Rs 2.50 crore on Friday and followed it up with a collection of Rs 3.60 crore on Saturday.

The first Sunday collection of ‘Emergency’ is better than Kangana's previous releases such as ‘Thalaivii’ (Rs 1.85 crore), ‘Dhaakad’ (Rs 98 lakh) and ‘Tejas’ (Rs 1.2 crore).

However, it is lower than ‘Judgementall Hai Kya’ (Rs 8 crore), ‘Panga’ (Rs 6.60 crore) and ‘Chandramukhi 2’ (Rs 8 crore).

As per several reports, the budget of 'Emergency' is around Rs 60 crore. Looking at the current trajectory of box office collection, it seems challenging that the film will be able to recover its budget through ticket sales.

‘Emergency’ has opened to mixed reviews by critics. However, the praise for Kangana Ranaut's performance is unanimous. Apart from Kangana Ranaut, ‘Emergency’ also stars Anupam Kher, the late Satish Kaushik, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry and Milind Soman. The movie has been backed by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films.

The Hindi movie marks Kangana Ranaut’s first solo directorial venture. Before this, she had co-directed the film ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ with Krish Jagarlamudi.

'Emergency' was not the solo release past weekend as Abhishek Kapoor's 'Azaad', starring Aaman Devgan (Ajay Devgn’s nephew) and Raveena Tandon’s daughter Rasha Thadani, also hit the theatres on January 17.

The new Hindi film earned Rs 1.85 crore on Sunday, the third day of its release. The total nett domestic collection currently stands at Rs 4.65 crore, as per Sacnilk. The movie also features an extended cameo by Ajay Devgn.

The film also stars Diana Penty, Mohit Malik, Piyush Mishra and Natasha Rastogi in key roles. 'Azaad' is Abhishek Kapoor's first directorial after four years. He is known for projects like 'Kai Po Che' and 'Kedarnath'.
