Prabhas’ ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ Continues To Outperform Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarfira’ And Kamal Haasan’s ‘Indian 2’
Here's how ‘Sarfira’, ‘Indian 2’ and ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ performed at the box office on Sunday.
After registering the lowest opening of his career in 15 years with ‘Sarfira’, Akshay Kumar’s new Hindi movie managed to register respectable growth over the weekend. However, the three-day total remains on the lower side. The film now needs to hold exceptionally well on Monday to end its run in theatres with a decent lifetime collection, considering the new Hindi movie will face competition from Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk-starrer ‘Bad Newz’, which is arriving in cinemas on Friday, July 19.
As per early estimates posted by industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Sarfira’ minted Rs 5.10 crore on Sunday, the third day of its release. The nett domestic collection of the film now stands at Rs 11.85 crore. ‘Sarfira’ had an overall 26.46 per cent Hindi occupancy on Sunday, with maximum occupancy coming in the evening shows.
‘Sarfira’, which has been directed by Sudha Kongara, is the Hindi remake of the National Award-winning Tamil film Soorarai Pottru (2020), starring Suriya. The original was also helmed by Sudha Kongara.
Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarfira’ was released in cinemas on Friday, alongside Shankar and Kamal Haasan's ‘Indian 2’. The new Tamil film minted Rs 15.10 crore on Sunday, the third day of its release, as per Sacnilk.
The nett domestic collection of the film now stands at Rs 58.90 crore. Out of this Rs 58.90 crore, the Tamil version has contributed Rs 41.20 crore, while the Hindi and Telugu versions have minted Rs 3.80 crore and Rs 13.90 crore, respectively.
Coming to Nag Ashwin's 'Kalki 2898 AD' starring Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani, the new pan-India film continues to dominate the box office, even in its third weekend. The film is easily the first choice among cinephiles, and it is clearly reflecting in its collection.
On Sunday (Day 18 of its release), 'Kalki 2898 AD' minted Rs 16.25 crore, as per Sacnilk. Out of this Rs 16.25 crore, the Hindi version contributed Rs 9.50 crore. The total nett domestic collection of the film now stands at Rs 579.95 crore.
The Hindi version has so far minted Rs 254.50 crore, while the Telugu version has made Rs 265.70 crore. As per the makers, 'Kalki 2898 AD' has now registered a worldwide gross box office collection of Rs 1,000 crore.
Lastly, speaking of Raghav Juyal and Lakshya's 'Kill', which has been backed by Karan Johar and Guneet Monga, minted Rs 1.60 crore on Sunday (10th day of its release). As per Sacnilk, the total nett domestic collection of the film currently stands at Rs 14.85 crore.
