Prabhas' 'Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire' Registers Biggest Opening For Indian Film In 2023, SRK's 'Dunki' Nears Rs 50 Crore Mark
Here's how 'Salaar' and 'Dunki' are performing at the box office.
2023 is ending with a bang and cinephiles have a lot of films to choose from this weekend. 'Dunki', 'Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire' and 'Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom' are playing at a theatre near you. For the unversed, Shah Rukh Khan's 'Dunki' and Jason Momoa-starrer 'Aquaman' released in theatres on December 21 while Prabhas' 'Salaar' hit the theatres on December 22. However, everyone was looking forward to how 'Dunki' and 'Salaar' fair at the box office, and it was billed as one of the biggest box office clashes in the history of Indian cinema.
If the 'Salaar' Day 1 collection is anything to go by, then it is safe to predict that it would be the Prabhas-starrer that will dominate 'Dunki'.
On the opening day of its release, Prashanth Neel-directorial which also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shruti Haasan, made almost Ts 95 crore across all languages on the opening day, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. As a result, 'Salaar' has broken the record of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' to register the biggest opening for any Indian film in 2023.
For the unversed, 'Salaar' has been produced by Vijay Kiragandur. The second installment of the film is called 'Salaar: Part 2 - Shouryaanga Parvam'.
Coming back to 'Dunki' directed by Rajkumar Hirani, which also stars Taapsee Pannu, Boman Irani, and Vicky Kaushal, the film minted Rs 20.5 crore on the second day of its release, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
For the unversed, 'Dunki' had collected Rs 29 crore on its opening day and hence the two-day total now stands at Rs 49.5 crore. The new Hindi film will be going past the Rs 50 crore mark today, however, 'Dunki' needs a massive jump on the weekend to post a substantial total.
'Dunki's two-day collections in India are much lesser than the opening day figures of SRK’s previous two releases, 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan'.
As per producers Red Chillies Entertainment, 'Dunki' made Rs 58 crore gross worldwide on the opening day of its release.
For Day 3, 'Dunki' has already sold 3,00,805 tickets, grossing Rs 10 crore, and hence a jump in collection can be expected.
On the other hand, 'Salaar' has sold 8,88,599 tickets for the second day of its release, already grossing an impressive Rs 19.7 crore.
