‘Animal’, starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, has gone past the lifetime collection of SRK’s ‘Pathaan’ in India.

Despite releasing in theatres on December 1, 2023, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s latest directorial venture ‘Animal’, starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, continues to brave competition from Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ and Prabhas’ ‘Salaar: Part One – Ceasefire’ at the box office. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial, which also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri and Shakti Kapoor, has broken another massive record now. The 2023 Hindi movie has gone past the lifetime collection of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’.

As per industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Animal’ minted Rs 51 lakh on its fifth Tuesday, and the collection in India now stands at Rs 547.02 crore. For the unversed, the Siddharth Anand-helmed ‘Pathaan’, co-starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, had made Rs 543.09 crore across all languages in India.

With this, ‘Animal’ has now become the second-highest grosser of 2023. For the unversed, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ is the highest grosser of 2023, after clocking in a massive Rs 640.25 crore in India.

Globally, ‘Animal’ has made more than Rs 890 crore. The film will be aiming to close its final run around Rs 900 crore. SRK’s ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’ had made Rs 1,148 crore and Rs 1,050 crore, respectively at the worldwide box office.

For the unversed, ‘Animal’ had released in theatres alongside Vicky Kaushal's ‘Sam Bahadur’. The movie also received an 'A' (adults only) certificate and the runtime was more than three hours.

While ‘Animal’ has made big bucks at the box office, it has been bashed for glorifying toxic masculinity and misogyny.

Earlier, in an interview with Galatta Plus, Sandeep Reddy Vanga said that the criticism does not bother him.

“Misogyny is the disrespect of women, that’s the actual definition. So, no. Even Kabir Singh, even Animal, even me as a person… I always feel my production company’s name is Bhadrakali Productions, I don’t know why people feel I disrespect (women). Not people, just these 15-20 jokers. It’s the wrong word to use (to describe) Kabir Singh and Animal,” he said.

“This too much of analysing and scrutinising films started of late, right," he added.
