‘Stree 2’ Set For Bumper Opening At Box Office, Sells More Than 2 Lakh Tickets For 1st Day

It's almost certain now that Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s new Hindi movie ‘Stree 2’ will have one of the biggest openings for any Bollywood film in 2024. The advance booking for the Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-starrer is going through the roof. And it remains to be seen whether the upcoming Hindi film manages to have an opening of more than Rs 30 crore or not, when it releases on this Independence Day.
‘Stree 2’, which also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Tamannaah Bhatia, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, has so far sold more than 2 lakh tickets for the opening day of its release.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Stree 2’ has so far sold 2,20,631 tickets for Day 1, grossing Rs 6.85 crore.
It is important to mention that ‘Stree 2’ is clashing with Akshay Kumar’s ‘Khel Khel Mein’ and John Abraham’s ‘Vedaa’ at the box office. However, ‘Stree 2’ advance booking is significantly higher than the other two releases.
It is fair to say that both ‘Khel Khel Mein’ and ‘Vedaa’ are struggling to find takers at the ticket counters.
As per Sacnilk, ‘Vedaa’, directed by Nikkhil Advani, has sold 10,506 tickets for the opening day so far, grossing Rs 29.97 lakh. For the unversed, ‘Vedaa’ also stars Sharvari Wagh, Abhishek Banerjee and Tamannaah Bhatia.
‘Khel Khel Mein’, which also stars Taapsee Pannu, Ammy Virk, Fardeen Khan, Vaani Kapoor, Aditya Seal, and Pragya Jaiswal, has so far sold just 5,547 tickets for the first day of its release, grossing just Rs 22.61 lakh.
Coming back to ‘Stree 2’, directed by Amar Kaushik, the project will mark the fifth movie in the Maddock Supernatural Universe. ‘Stree 2’ is a sequel to Amar Kaushik's 2018 film ‘Stree’.
The plot of ‘Stree’, which was released in cinemas in 2018, revolved around a witch who abducts men at night when they are alone and only leaves their clothes behind.
‘Stree’ opened to wide critical acclaim and emerged as a box office hit. The music of the film also drew a lot of attention, with ‘Milegi Milegi’ and ‘Kamariya’ becoming raging chartbusters.
Made on a budget of around Rs 20 crore, the movie went on to do a domestic box office business of more than Rs 125 crore.
