Did You Know: Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan Were Not Originally Supposed To Dance With Dharmendra In 'Deewangi Deewangi'
Did you know that Salman Khan and Saif Ali were not part of Dharmendra’s dance segment in uber-popular 'Om Shanti Om' song 'Deewangi Deewangi'?
'Om Shanti Om', starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Arjun Rampal in lead roles, is one of the most memorable Bollywood movies. The Hindi film was released in theatres in 2007, and it turned out to be the highest-grossing Hindi film of that year. If Sanjay Leela Bhansali-starrer 'Saawariya' had not been released on the same day, who knows 'Om Shanti Om' might have been the first Hindi film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark.
Whenever you talk about 'Om Shanti Om', you will think about the uber-popular 'Deewangi Deewangi' song.
‘Deewangi Deewangi’ featured stars like Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra, Rekha, Tabu, Karisma Kapoor, Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Mithun Chakraborty, Kajol, Rani Mukerji and Juhi Chawla among others.
Do you remember the segment where Salman Khan and Saif Ali Khan were seen dancing alongside SRK and Dharmendra in this popular track? Did you know that Salman Khan and Saif Ali Khan were not originally slated to shake a leg with Dharmendra, and it was all done impromptu?
In an interview with Film Companion some years back, Farah Khan shared how Salman Khan and Saif Ali Khan couldn't stop themselves after spotting Dharmendra on the sets.
"People would come, they would finish their shot and then just hang to see other person. You know that shot when Salman just jumps in when Dharam ji is dancing, that wasn't planned at all. He was standing behind the camera, he had finished his shoot some four hours back, and he was just hanging in Shah Rukh's van. Then he came and said I want to see Dharam ji," said Farah Khan.
"He just jumped in and then Saif jumped in. They all are looking rather lost. All that was impromptu," she added.
As a token of gratitude for featuring in ‘Deewangi Deewangi’, King Khan and Farah Khan also gifted all the Bollywood stars expensive hampers.
Every celebrity who took their time out for the song was given a hamper with many gifts worth Rs 1 lakh, including a Blackberry phone and a Tag Heuer watch.
What’s more? All the Bollywood actresses who featured in the song were allowed to keep their Manish Malhotra-designed clothes from the shoot. What a dream, right?
‘Om Shanti Om’, which marked the big Bollywood debut of Deepika Padukone, was released on November 9, 2007. The movie also starred Shreyas Talpade as SRK’s friend. Arjun Rampal essayed the role of an antagonist in the Farhan Khan directorial.
