In the latest Hollywood movie news, Cillian Murphy has revealed that he read the Bhagavad Gita as part of his preparation for 'Oppenheimer'.
For the unversed, back in the day, J Robert Oppenheimer had famously said that he thought of a quote from the Gita after successfully testing the world’s first atomic bomb in 1945. When the test concluded, Oppenheimer thought: "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."
“I did read the Bhagavad Gita in preparation, and I thought it was an absolutely beautiful text, very inspiring. I think it was a consolation to him, he kind of needed it and it provided him a lot of consolation, all his life," Cillian Murphy said in an interview with film journalist Sucharita Tyagi.
When asked about his learnings from Bhagavad Gita, Cillian said: “Well don’t grill me on it. I just found it very beautiful.”
Oppenheimer, which is going to have a box office clash with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s ‘Barbie’, is based on the Pulitzer Prize–winning biography ‘American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer’.
The Christopher Nolan directorial revolves around J. Robert Oppenheimer (Murphy), who famously led the Manhattan Project — the effort to create an atomic bomb during World War II.
The new Hollywood movie has a star-studded cast, including Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Robert Downey Jr, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, and Michael Angarano among others.
Cillian Murphy has been a part of many Nolan's projects and he had previously starred in 'Inception', 'Batman Begins', 'The Dark Knight', 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'Dunkirk'.
However, this is the first time that he would be playing a lead role in Nolan's film.
