Disney and Pixar's emotion-heavy 'Inside Out 2', continues to wreak havoc at the global box office. In the latest entertainment news, the new Hollywood movie has become the first in 2024 to go past the USD 1 billion mark at the global box office. After 19 days of release, the sequel to animated film 'Inside Out', has grossed USD 469.3 million in North America and USD 545.5 million internationally, as per Variety. The worldwide tally now stands at USD 1,015 billion. As a result, 'Inside Out 2' has now become the 11th animated movie to join the billion-dollar club, and it is the fastest animated movie to achieve the feat.

Out of these 11 titles, 8 belong to Disney. Earlier, 'Inside Out 2' has broken the record of 'Dune: Part Two' to register the biggest domestic opening of the year.

As per Variety, new Hollywood movie was also the first film since last year's 'Barbie' to debut above USD 100 million. Last week, the new Hollywood movie also surpassed the lifetime gross of its predecessor, 2015’s 'Inside Out' (USD 859 million worldwide).

“On behalf of movie theatre owners across the country and around the world, we want to congratulate Disney’s ‘Inside Out 2’ for grossing USD 1 billion faster than any animated movie in history,” Variety quoted Michael O’Leary, president and CEO of the National Association of Theatre Owners, as saying.

“The film’s stunning global success once again illustrates that audiences the world over will respond to compelling, entertaining movies, and that they want to enjoy them on the big screen," Michael added.

'Inside Out 2' has been directed by Kelsey Mann and the movie revisits a teenaged Riley, who ends up discovering new emotions of Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser) and Nostalgia (June Squibb) as she heads to hockey camp over the summer.

The 2015's 'Inside Out' was about the original adventure about the inner feelings -- Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith) and Anger (Lewis Black), of a young girl named Riley.
